NORMAN – All six runs for No. 12/9 Oklahoma (31-7) came in the fifth inning as the Sooners posted a 6-1 victory over North Texas (20-20) Wednesday night at Marita Hynes Field.

Oklahoma improved to 28-0 all-time against North Texas, marking its best undefeated record against another team. In addition, the team's 28-game winning streak over the Mean Green is its second longest active streak behind its 32-game run over Wichita State.

Wednesday's game was Bark in the Park, as fans were allowed to bring their dogs to the game and sit in left field. Close to 40 dogs were in attendance at the second annual event.

North Texas struck first in the third inning, but the Sooners limited the damage as best they could.

Lauren Miller hit a leadoff single and was replaced by pinch runner Kay Kay Hayter. After Bryana Wade walked, Bailey Thompson put down a sacrifice bunt. OU freshman Sydney Romero fielded the bunt and tried to get the force out at third, but Hayter was ruled safe on a bang-bang play, resulting in bases-loaded, no-out situation.

The safe call loomed large as Kelli Schkade followed that with a sacrifice fly to center field, putting North Texas up 1-0.

After a scoreless fourth, the Sooners exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead.

Senior Tori Nirschl led off as a pinch hitter and singled through the left side. After a walk by senior Erin Miller, freshman Sydney Romero singled through the left side to fill the bases. Freshman Shay Knighten then drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 1-1. Senior Kady Self followed with a deep fly ball to left field that bounced off the glove of a leaping Danielle Gregory, bringing home Miller on the single.

Leading 2-1, two more runs came in when a play at the plate resulted in an error by Schkade at shortstop. Freshman Caleigh Clifton hit a grounder to Schkade, who threw home trying to force out Romero. The throw, however, was errant and kicked off the top of the glove of catcher Bryana Wade. As a result, both Romero and Knighten scored to push the lead to 4-1.

On the very next pitch, freshman Fale Aviu added two more runs with a single up the middle.

Three pitchers combined on the win for Oklahoma.

Senior Kelsey Stevens made her first start since April 2 and got through 2.0 innings. She struck out two and allowed one run on two hits and one walk. Freshman Jayden Chestnut followed Stevens and pitched the third and fourth innings. She did not give up a run, hit or walk in her 2.0 innings and struck out two.

Sophomore Paige Parker entered for the final 3.0 innings and was the beneficiary of OU's six-run fifth. She earned a win for the eighth straight appearance to run her record to 18-3. Six of the nine outs she recorded came via strikeout, while she gave up one hit and walked one.

Oklahoma returns to the field this weekend when Texas comes to Norman. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
