NORMAN — Oklahoma's Haley Scaman has been named one of six finalists for the prestigious AAI Award, recognizing the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country. The honor is voted on by NCAA women's gymnastics head coaches and sponsored by American Athletic, Inc. (AAI).

The AAI Award is considered one of the highest honors given in the sport of NCAA women's gymnastics. Scaman is Oklahoma's fifth consecutive finalist for the award, joining Megan Ferguson (2012), Brie Olson (2013), Taylor Spears (2014) and Erica Brewer (2015).

Scaman is joined by five additional finalists, including Caitlin Atkinson (Auburn), Ivana Hong (Stanford), Lindsay Mable (Minnesota), Nina McGee (Denver) and Bridget Sloan (Florida). The winner will be announced at a banquet held in conjunction with the NCAA Championships on April 15-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. Visit the AAI website to read more about the 2016 finalists.

“Haley is an amazing, down-to-earth and humble woman," OU head coach K.J. Kindler said. "Throughout her career she has been a rock for the Sooners, participating in every single OU competition of her NCAA career. She is a true team player and that special athlete our entire team looks up to. She walks the talk outside the gym, demonstrating her commitment and discipline in all facets of her life. She has the work ethic and tenacity that the greatest athletes have, without the ego to match. She is a phenomenal person and athlete.”

A member of the team that claimed OU's first NCAA Championship in 2014, Scaman has competed in each and every meet during her time in Norman. She has been an integral part of Oklahoma's success as the Sooners have thrived on every level of competition and declared themselves a fixture at the top ranks of collegiate gymnastics. The past three seasons, OU has secured a top-three finish each year at the NCAA Championships, finishing second in 2013, as national champions in 2014 and in third place in 2015. In that span, the Sooners have also earned three consecutive NCAA Regional titles and four straight Big 12 Conference championships.

The list of Scaman's individual honors is extensive. The 2015 South Central Region Gymnast of the Year and two-time Big 12 Gymnast of the Year, Scaman is the only Sooner in program history to post multiple 10.0s on multiple events, with three perfect scores on floor exercise and two on vault. She is a four-time NCAA All-American and has received All-America recognition from the NACGC an additional five times. In 2014, Scaman finished as the NCAA Floor Exercise Runner-Up. She also placed third nationally on vault that season and added two more top-four finishes in 2015 (tied for third on vault, fourth on floor). Currently, Scaman is ranked in the top 20 nationally on two events, checking in at No. 5 on floor with a 9.945 RQS and at a tie for No. 18 on vault with a 9.890.

As a freshman and sophomore, Scaman received OU Gymnastics' “Most Consistent” honor after hitting 100 percent of all her routines in both seasons. The Riverside, Ill., native has 59 event titles to her name. In her career, Scaman has earned 15 Big 12 weekly awards, has been named All-Big 12 10 times and earned the conference's Newcomer of the Year award in 2013.

Scaman is set to graduate from OU in May with a Bachelor of Business Administration as a management major. She is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and holds a cumulative 3.3 GPA.

The No. 1 overall seed Sooners will next compete at the NCAA Iowa City Regional, where they will face No. 12 Nebraska, No. 13 Arkansas, Iowa, Kent St. and Central Michigan on Saturday, April 2. The regional is set to begin at 4 p.m. CT inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and tickets are available for purchase online.
