Oklahoma Tops the Mountaineers, 4-0, in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma women's tennis team topped West Virginia, 4-0, at home Sunday in its second Big 12 match. Suday's win marked the sixth shutout for the Sooners this season.

The Sooners (7-7, 2-0 Big 12) began the day by winning the doubles point over the Mountaineers (6-7, 0-2 Big 12).

"We did what we needed to do," head coach David Mullins said. " We won two doubles matches quickly and we were competitive in another like we've been most of the season."

On court one, senior Emma Devine and sophomore Lily Miyazaki held a demanding lead throughout their match, winning 6-2 over Carolina Lewis and Paula Goetz.

The No. 2 duo of Christiana Brigante and Zita Engbroks clinched the point for the Sooners with a 6-2 win over Lyn Yuen Choo and Yvon Martines. At No. 3, junior Mimi Fotopoulos and sophomore Simran Sethi were trailing, 5-2, to Abigail Rosiello and Habiba Shaker when the point was clinched.

Oklahoma continued its dominance in singles play. Sophomore Malene Stripp took the first singles match at No. 6, beating Abigail Rosiello, 6-0, 6-2.

"Malene (Stripp) has been our most improved player this year by far," Mullins said. "She's doing everything we're asking of her and applying it really well. She listens and takes input into her game quickly."

Brigante added another straight set victory on court five with a 6-3, 6-0 win over WVU's Yvon Martinez.

The Sooners clinched the match at the No. 2 line Devine defeated West Virginia's Carolina Lewis, 6-2, 6-2.

The Sooners are back in action Friday, April 1 as they travel to Baylor.
