NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma women's tennis team topped Iowa State, 4-0, at home Saturday to begin Big 12 play.

The Sooners (6-7, 1-0 Big 12) began the day by winning both doubles matches over Iowa State (12-3, 0-1 Big 12).

"I'm really pleased for the first time all season, even though we won the doubles point on Wednesday, we still had one team not show up at number three," Oklahoma head coach David Mullins said. "Today, to win all three, or be at match point at number two doubles, was definitely the happiest I've been with doubles all year. It really is the first time all three teams have showed up."

Senior Emma Devine and sophomore Lily Miyazaki struck first, defeating the Cyclones' Samatha Budai and Liza Buss, 6-2, on court one. At the No. 3 line, junior Mimi Fotopoulos and sophomore Simran Sethi took another 6-2 decision over Regina Espindola and Claudia Toledo. The No. 2 duo of Christiana Brigante and Zita Engbroks were leading, 5-2, when the point was clinched.

"I think Christie (Brigante) and Zita (Engbroks) have realy established themselves. Emma (Devine) and Lily (Miyazaki) are a new team, but I really like how those two mesh with one another. They've had two really good performances and I think they can build on that. I liked what Simran (Sethi) and Mimi (Fotopoulos) did today," Mullins said.

Oklahoma continued its dominance in singles play. Sophomore Christiana Brigante took the first singles match at No. 5, beating Annabella Bonodonna, 6-2, 6-2.

Fellow sophomore Malene Stripp added a straight set victory on court six, beating Claudie Toledo, 6-3, 6-1.

The Sooners clinched the match  at the No. 2 line as Emma Devine defeated Iowa State's Liza Buss 7-5, 6-4.

"We took advantage of what we had to at five and six and did what we had to do at these other spots," Mullins said.

The Sooners are back in action Sunday as they take on West Virginia at home at noon.
