TOP-10 MATCHUP
The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team hits the road to take on No. 10 Georgia on Saturday afternoon in Athens, Ga. The meet is slated to begin at 3 p.m. CT inside Stegeman Coliseum. UGA leads the all-time series, 16-9, but the Sooners won the most-recent meeting in the 2014 NCAA Championships, 198.175-197.050. Away from Norman this season, the Sooners hold an 11-1 record, including a 4-1 mark at non-neutral site locations. The Sooners face a challenging stretch of meets to close out the regular season. After facing Georgia, OU will also take on ranked foes in Michigan (No. 3), Arizona (No. 27) and UCLA (No. 10).
NO. 1 AGAIN
For the second straight week, Oklahoma sits atop the national rankings, averaging a 197.428 through its eight meets. Additionally, the Sooners are No. 1 on three events, including vault (49.353), bars (49.413) and beam (49.306), and two individuals in Chayse Capps and McKenzie Wofford occupy the top spot on beam and bars, respectively. OU was ranked No. 1 in the 2016 NACGC Preseason Coaches' Poll for the first time in program history.
TOPPING 197
In their last seven meets, the Sooners have turned in 197-plus performances, most recently scoring a 197.675 at the Perfect 10 Challenge last weekend. The Sooners hold half of the top 10 marks in the nation this season, including three of the five best scores, with their 197.925 from Feb. 5 coming in as the second-highest mark overall and the best road score.
INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
OU boasts 14 individual appearances in the top 25 of the national rankings, tied with Florida for second-most in the country. Just three other schools can claim double-digit individual rankings, including Alabama (15), LSU (12) and UCLA (10).
BEST ON BEAM
The Sooners are known for their consistent success on beam, and this season, they have continued to shine despite having to fill three lineup voids from a year ago. Last week, OU rose to the No. 1 ranking on the event and remained in the spot this week, holding a 49.306 average. Each season since 2010, OU has finished first or second in the nation on beam, including five seasons in first. Individually, junior Chayse Capps is ranked No. 1 on beam with a 9.916 average.
NEW LINEUP, NO PROBLEM
In the 2016 season, the Sooners returned just half of their bars lineup from the previous campaign, but Oklahoma has not missed a beat. The Sooners have been incredibly strong on the event, moving into first place nationally last week and keeping the spot in the latest standings. The Sooners exploded for a 49.600 on bars at the Perfect 10 Challenge, which is the second-best score in OU history and highest in the nation this season. Junior McKenzie Wofford sits at No. 1 individually on the event, averaging a 9.925.
A GLANCE AT NO. 10 GEORGIA
Georgia enters Saturday's contest with a 4-3 overall record, including a 4-1 mark in SEC competitions, and is coming off upsets of two top-five teams. Most recently, UGA defeated then-No. 5 LSU 197.525-196.800 in a wire-to-wire victory. The score was a season high for Georgia. UGA is led by senior Brandie Jay, who currently holds the fourth-best all-around average in the nation with a 39.469. Danna Durante is in her fourth season as the UGA head coach.
The Sooners return to Norman to host No. 3 Michigan at 6:45 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 26, inside Lloyd Noble Center. Tickets are available for purchase online or by calling the OU Athletics Tickets Office at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free at (800) 456-GoOU.
