OU Trio Sweeps Big 12 Awards for Third Straight Week

NORMAN — The trio of junior Chayse Capps, junior McKenzie Wofford and freshman Nicole Lehrmann of the No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team have swept the Big 12 weekly honors for the third consecutive week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Capps was again recognized as the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week, Wofford was named the Event Specialist of the Week and Lehrmann secured Newcomer of the Week recognition. Last week, the OU trio became the first to sweep the same three Big 12 weekly awards since the conference added a newcomer honor in 2011. They are now the first three-peat winners in Big 12 history.

Capps, Wofford and Lehrmann aided the Sooners to a team score of 197.675 and a first-place finish at the four-team Perfect 10 Challenge in Oklahoma City last Friday, also helping them maintain their No. 1 national ranking. All three competed on bars, contributing to OU's team score of 49.600, the second-best in program history and the highest in the country this season.

For the third straight meet, Capps secured the all-around and beam titles. She tallied a 39.625 in the all-around and added a 9.925 on beam in the anchor spot. On vault, Capps recorded a season-high 9.925 to help the Sooners to their season-best 49.475 on the apparatus. Capps scored a 9.9 on bars and added a 9.875 on floor. The Plano, Texas, native is ranked No. 1 nationally on beam for the second straight week with an average of 9.916. She is also ranked No. 7 in the all-around (39.466 average) and is tied for 19th on vault (9.863) and 18th on bars (9.859).

Wofford anchored OU's bars lineup and capped off the massive rotation with a 9.925 on Friday night, her seventh score this season of at least 9.9. She is ranked No. 1 nationally on bars for the sixth consecutive week with an average of 9.925.

In the No. 2 spot on bars, Lehrmann stormed to a career-high 9.95, giving the Sooners early momentum in the rotation. The score was good for a share of the event title, the first of Lehrmann's career. The freshman also added a 9.8 on beam for the Sooners.

The Sooners have now picked up 13 weekly conference accolades this season. The recognition is the third of the season for both Capps and Lehrmann and the fifth of the year for Wofford. OU has won at least one Big 12 award each week this season.

The Sooners (16-1 overall, 3-0 Big 12) head to Athens, Ga., to take on No. 10 Georgia on Saturday. The meet will stream on SEC Network+ and is slated for a 3 p.m. CT start.
