CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Playing in the back draw of the 2016 ITA National Indoor Championship, the fifth-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team bested 16th-seeded San Diego 4-0 on Saturday at the Boar's Head Sport Club in Charlottesville, Va.
"We did a great job of coming out with intensity and purpose in doubles today," head coach John Roddick said. "Our singles was solid and Florin (Bragusi) did an extremely good job of taking care of his business. We're looking forward to a tough match against Illinois tomorrow."
The Sooners (4-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Toreros with improved play in doubles. At the number two spot, sophomore Spencer Papa and senior Axel Alvarez, ranked No. 57 as a pair, cruised to 6-1 win over Uros Petronijevic and Joshua Page. The clinching win came at number three doubles where senior Austin Siegel and freshman Andre Biro bested Romain Kalaydjian and Jaan Kononov, 6-3.
