Sooner Volleyball Signs Three

February 12, 2016 | Volleyball

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma volleyball head coach Santiago Restrepo has announced the signing of three incoming student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent for the 2016 season. The Sooners welcome Ashley Brown, Erin Dibble and Morgan Turner.

Ashley Brown | S | 5-9
Prosper, Texas | Prosper

Ashley Brown

Brown is a 5'9 setter out of Prosper, Texas where she lettered three times under coach Erin McClanahan at Prosper High School. She earned AVCA All-America Honorable Mention as a senior, while guiding the team to its second-straight district championship. As a senior, Brown also earned District Setter of the Year and First Team honors as well as Dallas Morning News All-Area First Team. She played her club volleyball with Texas Advantage and Lonestar Volleyball.

“Ashley has a very mature and very intellectual vision of the game,” said Restrepo. “She is very decisive and an extremely deceptive setter. She will give a lot of competition to our two returning setters. We have talked about her improving her backrow defense and she has done that; getting better each time I've seen her. She is definitely a player that is going to be a great leader and have a positive impact on our team.”

Erin Dibble | OH/RS | 6-2
Frisco, Texas | Wakeland

Erin Dibble

Dibble, a 6'2 outside hitter, comes to Norman from Frisco, Texas. A four-time letterwinner at Wakeland High School, she earned her second All-District honor in 2015 as well as being named the Most Outstanding Blocker in the district. At the club level, she player four seasons with Texas Advantage Volleyball and helped the team to a first-place finish at the Lonestar Classic and Northeast qualifier.

“Erin is an extremely gifted right-side that has potential to do great things in the years to come. She adds a valuable asset to our program because she is a left-handed hitter. She reminds me of Suzy Boulavsky, a former left-hander of ours that was very successful. She is also a very good blocker and has a big-time shot repertoire that can get kills at any time.”

Morgan Turner | S/OH | 6-2
Edmond, Okla. | Deer Creek

Morgan Turner

A 6'2 outside hitter and setter from Edmond, Okla., Turner earned four letters for coach Lisa Polcovich at Deer Creek High School. She helped the team to three-consecutive regional championships and left as the program's all-time leader in hitting percentage, blocks, assists and kills. Turner earned All-State in 2015 following an All-Region selection in 2014. She spent six seasons at the club level playing for Oklahoma Peak Performance, while twice qualifying for the Open Division at Nationals in 2012 and 2015.

“I think Morgan is a player that can play multiple positions. She is going to be like a Kierra Holst. Any place that we need her to fill a spot she is going to be able to fill those gaps. She is a player that is extremely gifted as a setter, but also a really good hitter from both the right and left sides. It's good to have a great utility player in your program where you possess the specific skills for a variety of positions. She's a great athlete and is going to be successful. We're always happy to have talented players from Oklahoma.”
