Maddie Manning Named Big 12 Player of the Week

NORMAN – Oklahoma redshirt senior guard Maddie Manning has been named Big 12 Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week following her performances last week against Xavier, California and Portland State at the Puerto Rico Classic. Manning shares the honors with Kansas redshirt sophomore guard McKenzie Calvert.

A 6-2 guard from Ankeny, Iowa, Manning averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.3 steals and 1.3 assists in OU's three games at the 2016 Puerto Rico Classic last week. She shot a combined .393 (13-of-33) from the floor, including a .500 clip (7-of-14) from beyond the arc. Manning was nearly flawless at the free throw line, connecting on .895 of her free throw attempts (17-of-19).

Manning set a career high and nearly toppled a school record with 10 steals in OU's victory over Portland State. Her 10 steals are the most by a Division I player this season, the most by an OU player under head coach Sherri Coale and tied for the second-most ever by a Big 12 Player in a single game. She also led the way with a game-high 17 points versus Portland State.

Against the Vikings, Manning became the first Sooner to record a double-double with points and steals since 1996. Her defensive effort helped OU to a season-high 27 steals against Portland State, just one shy of tying the school record for single-game steals.

Manning recorded 16 points, seven rebounds and a then career-best seven steals against No. 20 California. In OU's first game at the Puerto Rico Classic, the redshirt senior poured in 17 points and finished with a team-high eight rebounds off the bench in 35 minutes of action versus Xavier.

Heading into OU's Big 12 opener, Manning ranks second on the team in scoring (12.5 points per game) and rebounding (5.3 rebounds per game). She leads the Big 12 with 3.2 steals per game and is fifth in the conference with a .854 free throw percentage.

The honor marked the first time Manning has been selected as Big 12 Player of the Week in her career.

TCU's Mikayla Christian was named the league's newcomer of the week.

The Sooners open Big 12 play on Thursday night at Kansas. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT inside Allen Fieldhouse. The game will be streamed live on WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app.
