NORMAN – The No. 16 Oklahoma wrestling team dropped their first Big 12 contest of the year to Oklahoma State, 33-3, on Friday night inside McCasland Field House.
Redshirt senior No. 13 Clark Glass got the Sooners only win of the night with a 3-1 sudden victory decision over No. 4 Chandler Rogers at 165 pounds. OU fell to 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in Big-12 competition.
“I think the effort was good from our team tonight, for the most part. I think there were a couple of weight classes just outmatched,” OU head coach Lou Rosselli said. “I thought what you saw was a polished Oklahoma State with a little bit of pedigree in some weight classes. I thought most of the matches were pretty competitive, with them obviously in favor and coming out on top with the most of them.”
Glass's bout remained scoreless after the opening frame, but he escaped for a one-point advantage after two periods. Rogers escaped in the third to take the match to sudden victory, but Glass tallied a quick takedown for the first Bedlam win of his career.
The dual started off at 197 pounds, where No. 18 Brad Johnson dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 5 Preston Weigel. The heavyweight bout pitted No. 13 Ross Larson against No. 12 Austin Schafer, with Schafer tallying a 5-2 decision win.
At 125 pounds, redshirt freshman Christian Moody made his first dual appearance for the Sooners but dropped a 12-2 major decision to No. 10 Nick Piccininni.
In the 133-pound bout, junior Trae Blackwell took on No. 6 Kaid Brock. Blackwell struck first, but Brock responded with two takedowns for a 5-3 advantage after the opening period. Blackwell rallied, but ultimately lost in a 10-7 decision.
Junior Mike Longo dropped a 12-3 major decision to top-ranked Dean Heil at 141 pounds, and in the 149-pound match, No. 3 Anthony Collica downed No. 14 Davion Jeffries, 10-5.
At 157 pounds, OSU's Jonce Blaylock defeated No. 13 DaWaylon Barnes, 6-3, and redshirt freshman Hayden Hansen dropped the 174-pound bout to No. 4 Kyle Crutchmer by 22-6 technical fall. The 184-pound bout capped off the dual as No. 5 Nolan Boyd recorded a 16-1 technical fall over Andrew Dixon in 5:43.
