NORMAN – Oklahoma women's basketball redshirt senior guard Maddie Manning was named a 2017 WBCA AllState Good Works Team nominee on Wednesday.
The Allstate WBCA Good Works Teams® recognizes players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruistic acts stand out amongst all other student-athletes participating in the sport.
Manning, a native of Ankeny, Iowa, has been a catalyst for the Sooners on and off the court. She has been one of OU's leaders in organizing community service activities during her collegiate career. Among numerous community service activities, she traveled with Sooners for Haiti four times to volunteer at a Haitian orphanage during the summer. She has also participated in OU women's basketball's “Sooner Big Sis” where she visits with a local elementary school classroom once a week.
Manning has also helped with OU women's basketball's monthly community service initiatives during her time with the Sooners, which has included partnering with the J.D. McCarty Center and the Norman Parks and Recreation Department.
On the court, Manning ranks third on the team this season in scoring with 11.0 points per game, helping the Sooners to a 5-0 start. She has already graduated with her bachelor's degree and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Adult and Higher Education. She is also a two-time All-Big 12 Academic First Team selection.
Ninety-seven Division I women's basketball student-athletes were nominated for the prestigious honor. The 10 finalists will be recognized at the 2017 NCAA Final Four in Dallas, Texas.
