NORMAN — After posting its third straight score of 197 or higher, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics remained in the No. 2 spot in this week's national rankings.
On Friday night, the Sooners tallied a 197.475 as they finished first in a tri-meet with Iowa State and Arizona State in Norman. The score is OU's best of the year and is the second-highest in the nation so far this season. The mark raised the Sooners' scoring average from 196.967 to 197.094.
Florida holds the top spot with an average of 197.192. Michigan comes in at No. 3 with a 196.938 average, and UCLA (196.758) and Alabama (196.688) are ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
As a team, OU is ranked in the top seven nationally on every event, including three second-place rankings. The Sooners remained at No. 2 on both vault (49.300) and beam (49.300) and rose to the second spot on bars (49.319). On floor, OU jumped a spot into a tie for seventh with a 49.175 average.
Senior Keeley Kmieciak remained at No. 7 in the all-around with a 39.394, while junior Chayse Capps moved two spots to No. 15, averaging 39.281.
Individually, six Sooners are ranked in the top 25 nationally on at least one event. For the third straight week, junior McKenzie Wofford checks in at No. 1 in the nation on bars, holding a 9.925 average.
A trio of Sooners are ranked in the top 25 on vault, including sophomore AJ Jackson, whose 9.894 average has her in eighth place. Senior Haley Scaman sits at No. 17 with a 9.869, and Kmieciak is tied for 25th place with a 9.856.
Capps moved into the fifth spot on beam, boasting a 9.888 average, and Kmieciak holds 11th on the event with a 9.869. Scaman's average of 9.912 on floor is good for a tie for seventh in the nation, while Jackson shares No. 17 with a 9.894.
This weekend, OU (5-1 overall, 1-0 Big 12) will travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete in the Metroplex Challenge on Saturday. Opponents at the meet will be No. 6 LSU, No. 12 Stanford, No. 16 Missouri and Washington. The event will be held in the Fort Worth Convention Center, the host site of the 2016 NCAA Championships.
The Sooners will return to the Lloyd Noble Center on Sunday, Feb. 7, when they host No. 22 West Virginia in a conference contest.
