NOTES AND NUMBERS FOR WEEK TWO

THE MATCHUP

The No. 1 Oklahoma men's gymnastics team continues its season-opening road swing as it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on the 10th-ranked Michigan Wolverines. The meet begins at 4 p.m. CT Saturday at Cliff Keen Arena. The Wolverines started the season ranked No. 5 in the coaches poll but after finishing in fifth place at the Windy City Invitational with a team total of 413.700, they currently rank 10th.

LAST TIME VS. THE WOLVERINES

In 2015 Oklahoma hosted Michigan for its home opener. The Sooners posted a team total of 456.400 to break the NCAA single-meet scoring record. OU would go on to break that mark just two weeks later against Illinois. Against UM the Sooners topped the 75-point mark on every apparatus and hit their top mark on high bar with a total of 77.050. OU swept the event titles with returners Hunter Justus winning floor (15.450), Colin Van Wicklen taking vault (15.500), Allan Bower claiming parallel bars (15.200) and Kanji Oyama taking the all-around (91.000)

STANDOUT FRESHMAN

Arvada, Colo., native Yul Moldauer made quite a splash in his collegiate debut. The freshman posted an all-around score of 90.150 at the Rocky Mountain Open, setting a new tournament record and claiming the title. Moldauer also took home the event title on parallel bars with a score of 15.600 that tied the Rocky Mountain Open record, set by teammate Sergey Resnick in 2014. Moldauer rounded out his first NCAA competition by finishing third on floor with a 15.600, tied for third on vault with a 15.200 and third on high bar with a 14.650. After his impressive performance, Moldauer earned NCAA Gymnast of the Week.

ALL-AROUNDERS

Moldauer wasn't the only Sooner to make his mark in the all-around at the Rocky Mountain Open. Sophomore Hunter Justus scored an 88.000 to place second and junior Allan Bower notched an 86.950 to take fourth. After the first week of competition, the Sooners' trio ranks first, third and fifth in the nation, respectively. Oklahoma will rely on strong marks from its all-arounders all season as they anchor a Sooner team that has its sights on repeating as national champion.

400 CAREER WINS

With the result at the Rocky Mountain Open, head coach Mark Williams added four wins to his already staggering total. With a career record of 401-36 (.918), six national titles and 13 conference titles, Williams, who was inducted in the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2015, continues to build on his already historic legacy.

UP NEXT

Next weekend, Oklahoma returns to the friendly confines of the McCasland Field House for its home opener. The Sooners will host Iowa and California on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m. CT.

QUICK HITS

• OU is ranked No. 1 in the CGA Coaches Poll. The Sooners received all 15 first-place votes in week two and sit atop the standings (based on team scoring average) as well.

• In the Sooners' last meeting with Michigan, Oklahoma broke the NCAA single-meet scoring record with a team total of 456.400.
