Kaylon Williams Named Senior CLASS Candidate

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Oklahoma women's basketball redshirt senior forward Kaylon Williams was selected Tuesday as one of 30 candidates for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award for women's basketball.

Sixty NCAA men's and women's basketball student-athletes who excel both on and off the court were selected as candidates for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate basketball. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Williams, a native of Midwest City, Okla., is OU's leading scorer and rebounder this season with 14.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Academically, she has been named to OU's President's Honor Roll (4.00 GPA) once and has been selected to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll twice. She is a four-time Sooner Scholar majoring in sociology.

She has been part of all of the Sooners' community service efforts including trips to Haiti for a week at the end of each spring semester, volunteering with local elementary schools on a weekly basis and visiting patients at OU Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2016 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four®.

Oklahoma's Courtney Paris was the award's recipient in 2009.
