QUICK TURNAROUND
Fresh off a Friday night tri-meet against No. 11 California and Texas Woman's University, the No. 4 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team hits the road to face No. 16 Arkansas. The meet is slated for a 2 p.m. CT start on Sunday, Jan. 17. The Sooners lead the all-time series with the Razorbacks, 12-2. Against Cal and TWU, OU posted a 197.175 to secure two wins over the Bears (194.225) and Pioneers (188.250).
ALL-AROUNDERS
In OU's first two meets of 2016, a pair of Sooners in senior Keeley Kmieciak and junior Chayse Capps have stepped into the lineup as all-around competitors. OU's season opener was the first time Kmieciak performed on floor and in the all-around since her freshman season, while it marked Capps' first competition as a Sooner in the all-around. Against Cal and TWU, Kmieciak scored a 39.425 to secure the individual all-around crown. After Friday's competitions, Kmieciak sat 10th in the nation with a 39.337 average, while Capps shared 19th with an average of 39.200. Erica Brewer was OU's last all-around competitor in the first two meets of the 2014 season.
INDIVIDUAL SWEEP
In Friday's tri-meet against Cal and TWU, the Sooners took top honors on all four events and in the all-around, in which senior Keeley Kmieciak posted a 39.425 mark. Junior Chayse Capps also competed in the all-around, finishing with a score of 39.200. Senior Haley Scaman and sophomore AJ Jackson tied on vault with identical scores of 9.9, while juniors Capps and McKenzie Wofford shared the bars title with 9.925s. Junior Kara Lovan matched a career high of 9.925 to secure the beam title, and Jackson claimed the floor crown with a 9.925.
SHOWING DEPTH
Oklahoma's lineup showcases the depth it has on its roster. In addition to OU's two all-around competitors at LSU, four other Sooners appeared on three events, including senior Haley Scaman (VT, UB, FX), junior Charity Jones (VT, BB, FX), sophomore AJ Jackson (VT, UB, FX) and freshman Nicole Lehrmann (VT, UB, BB). Junior McKenzie Wofford recorded an impressive 9.95 on bars, sophomore Natalie Brown shined in the No. 4 lineup on beam with a career-high 9.875 and junior Kara Lovan competed on both beam and floor. Against Cal and TWU, freshman Alex Marks, who joined the team this semester, made her debut on vault.
STARTING STRONG
Big season-opening scores have become the norm in recent years for the Sooners under coach K.J. Kindler. Oklahoma owns five season openers of 196.250 or better since 2010, including a 196.725 on Saturday, Jan. 9, on the road at LSU.
QUICK HITS
• Junior McKenzie Wofford was named the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week on Jan. 12 after posting a 9.95 on bars at No. 5 LSU in Oklahoma's opening meet on Saturday, Jan. 9. That score is tied for the best in the nation this season.
• Oklahoma returns eight previous NCAA All-Americans who own 15 total accolades: Chayse Capps (VT, BB), Maile'ana Kanewa (VT, FX), Kara Lovan (FX), Haley Scaman (VT, FX), Ali Jackson (VT), Charity Jones (VT), Keeley Kmieciak (UB, BB) and McKenzie Wofford (UB).
• Senior Haley Scaman, the two-time Big 12 Gymnast of the Year, enters this season as the only Sooner in program history to post multiple 10.0s in a career as well as 10.0s on multiple events. Scaman owns three perfect scores on floor and two on vault.
• OU's schedule includes 10 meets to be held in the states of Oklahoma or Texas, including five in Norman inside the Lloyd Noble Center.
• All five of OU's regular season matches will be televised live by Sooner Sports TV.
