NORMAN — In her first bars routine of the 2016 season, Oklahoma women's gymnastics junior McKenzie Wofford competed in the No. 5 spot and tallied an impressive 9.95 on the road at No. 5 LSU inside a packed Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The performance earned Wofford Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
Nationally, Wofford is ranked in a tie for No. 1 on the event. Her 9.95 was the top score of the meet on bars and tied a meet high of any competitor on any event. The score already matches her season best from a year ago.
The honor marks the first conference recognition for the Sooners this season and is the sixth such for Wofford in her career.
Denver's Nina McGee earned Gymnast of the Week honors for Jan. 12, and West Virginia's Kirah Koshinski took Newcomer of the Week accolades.
The No. 4 Sooners open their home slate this Friday when they welcome No. 11 California and TWU to the Lloyd Noble Center. The meet is slated for a 6:45 p.m. CT start, and tickets are available for purchase online or by calling the OU Athletics Tickets Office at (405) 325-2424 or toll-free at (800) 456-GoOU.
