NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's golf team finished the season-opening Carmel Cup in fourth place with a total score of 1088 (+8). The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the iconic 6,828-yard, par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.

The eight-team tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt, featured four squads ranked in the top 20 of the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll. Each team competed with six golfers, and the low five scores counted toward the team total each round.

The No. 18 Sooners entered the final round in fourth and held this position with a 5-over-par 365 on the day.

“The course played much tougher today and our guys hung in there,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “It wasn't exactly how we wanted to finish, but I saw some good things this week.  We have to get sharper throughout but these guys will continue to get better.”

No. 16 Oklahoma State won the tournament, hitting 3 over par on Sunday to earn a 1075 (-5). No. 12 Georgia was six strokes behind with a 1081 (+1) and No. 11 Vanderbilt finished in third with an even-par 1080. Texas Tech earned fifth place with a 1099 (+19), TCU ended in sixth place at 1106 (+26) and Arkansas and Ohio State shot an overall 1107 (+27) to tie for seventh.

Junior Max McGreevy and senior Luke Kwon paced the Sooners, tying for 10th place with overall scores of 217 (+1). It was Kwon's first career top-10 finish and McGreevy's seventh. McGreevy finished the day at 1 over, pocketing an eagle and a birdie. Kwon shot 2 over on Sunday, tallying two birdies on the day.

Shooting a 70 (-2), sophomore Grant Hirschman showed improvement in the final round. After beginning the day in a tie for 26th place, Hirschman carded three birdies Sunday to earn a share of 16th place with an overall score of 218 (+2). This is Hirschman's 10th top-20 career finish.

After leading the team all weekend, freshman Brad Dalke slipped from a tie for eighth place to a share of 27th after shooting 6 over par on Sunday. Sophomore Rylee Reinertson and freshman Aaron Terrazas closed the tournament in a tie for 34th with overall scores of 224 (+8).

The Sooners are back in action Sept. 13-14 (Sunday-Monday) in Plymouth, Minn. for the Gopher Invitational.
