OU to Begin Fall Slate at Pebble Beach
September 03, 2015 | Men's Golf
NORMAN – The Oklahoma men's golf team heads to Pebble Beach, Calif., this weekend for its season opener at the fifth annual Carmel Cup. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be played Friday-Sunday (Sept. 4-6) at the historic 6,828-yard, par-72 Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The team's first tournament of the fall season showcases eight teams, including four squads ranked in the top 20 of the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll. Each team will compete with six golfers, and the low five scores will count towards the team total each round.
“It is always great to get the season going, but there is something even more special starting out at Pebble Beach,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “Our guys are super excited to get out on property, and we are playing against some of the best teams in the country.”
OU's lineup for the Carmel Cup will include senior Luke Kwon, junior Max McGreevy, sophomores Grant Hirschman and Rylee Reinertson and freshmen Brad Dalke and Aaron Terrazas.
This season, Hybl wants to see his team continue to improve, ultimately resulting in a Big 12 Championship and NCAA Championships qualification.
“If they all get better throughout the year, we're going to be in good shape,” Hybl said. “We have a young squad going, but I like where these guys are at right now and looking forward to seeing them in action.”
