NORMAN — This season, four home University of Oklahoma soccer games and four home volleyball matches will be broadcast on the radio locally by KREF Sportstalk 1400. Chris Plank, who was recently hired full-time as a part of the Sooner Sports Television and Sooner Sports Radio Network teams, will anchor the soccer coverage by handling the play-by-play duties. The first radio broadcast of the season will be at the soccer home opener against Little Rock on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m.
“To do more play-by-play is another reason that I wanted to be here,” claimed Plank. “I can't wait to get going with this.”
Plank, the OU football sideline reporter, will be joined on the soccer broadcasts by Abby Hodgen and Carrie Whigham, who will split the color commentary duties throughout the season. Hodgen, a former co-captain, recently completed a four-year playing career with the Sooners in the fall of 2014. She appeared in 81 games, making 71 starts, throughout her career with 16 points on four goals and eight assists. Whigham spent her freshman season on OU's defense in 2010 and played part of 2011 before retiring and finishing out her career as a medical redshirt in 2013. The one-time captain of the U-18 U.S. National Team started all 23 games as a freshman and followed with four appearances and three starts as a sophomore.
The remaining radio broadcast schedule for soccer includes matches against UTSA (Sept. 6), Arizona State (Sept. 20) and Iowa State (Sept. 27).
Plank and veteran OU volleyball color commentator Laura Alford, a former collegiate head coach, will call Oklahoma vs. North Texas on Friday, Sept. 4 during the team's home NIKE Invitational. Alford will work with her familiar broadcast partner Chad McKee on the remaining broadcasts against Iowa State (Sept. 30), Texas Tech (Oct. 28) and Texas (Nov. 27).
