Reinertson Wins Nebraska Amateur Championship
July 31, 2015 | Men's Golf
NORMAN — Oklahoma rising sophomore Rylee Reinertson claimed the 107th Nebraska Amateur Championship, played at Indian Creek Golf Course in Elkhorn, Neb.
Reinertson, who birdied the last two holes of the final round to grab the win, secured the title by one stroke with a four-round total of 286 (-2). The Gibbon, Neb., native posted round scores of 73 (+1), 71 (-1), 71 (-1), 71 (-1) en route to the victory.
In Thursday's final round, Reinertson hit his tee shot to three feet on the par 3 17th hole and made birdie. Then out of a difficult lie in the rough above a fairway bunker he hit his approach shot close on hole No. 18. The putt dropped and Reinertson took the win over Jose Vega of Bellevue, Neb.
In total, Reinertson tallied 22 birdies and an eagle for the event and played 29 holes at par.
"I thought the key for me this week was my patience during each round and my length off the tee helped set up a lot of birdie opportunities throughout the week," Reinertson said. "Also, I've make great progress on my putting stroke over this week and I putted really well. It's an honor to have my name alongside some of the best players to win this championship, and I'm really proud of myself for finishing off the tournment."
