Oklahoma vs. Utah Valley Quotes

May 03, 2015 | Softball

Head Coach Patty Gasso

On Paige Parker's performance:
“Close to perfect. I mean, she struck out 12 of 15 hitters, so she's just in a really fantastic place right now, especially as a freshman. It's not like we're playing an offense that can't handle the bat. They (Utah Valley) have over 50 home runs this season. They can swing. Paige is just really starting to pinpoint things, and she's able to call upon a pitch pretty much at any time and nail it. It's been really fun to watch her development, and what she can do in the postseason is pretty exciting, as well.”

On if her team accomplished what she wanted this weekend:
“For the most part I would say yes. What we did pretty well was we just had some clutch performances. I still think we were a little sloppy in areas, and those are just things we have to work on. I don't make excuses, but you have finals coming up and you're thinking about what they could be thinking about. I'm not worried because these guys are going to play the game and play it hard. I'm anxious for them to just get through these finals, because I think this will be a team that can exhale and actually rejuvenate. We've had a really tough road season. We've traveled quite a bit, and it's going to be nice to get them to take a break. This is where I appreciate the fact that we don't have a Big 12 Conference tournament, because we can get our rest and take a breath and be ready to get after it. Yes, for the most part, we got what we wanted to get done this weekend.”

Freshman Pitcher Paige Parker

On what went well for her today:
“I was just trying to attack the zone the best that I could and really try to get ahead of batters and go after them. It seemed to work well for me. It was a good day.”

On tying the NCAA record for perfect games in a season:
“It's truly an honor to know that I did that. It's a testament to hard work and how we work as a team. I couldn't do that without my defense and the offense, too. That's important. It was just a big team effort.”

On what has allowed her to have success as a freshman:
“It was just having an awesome defense behind me and having the confidence in our hitters, that I know they're going to score a lot of runs for me. Having that confidence and working really hard at everything I do have been what's worked.”
