Postgame Quotes - OU at North Texas

Lauren Chamberlain

On setting the all-time home run record:
“I feel really, really ecstatic and I feel like I'm finally able to finally fully enjoy the moment. I think the pressure of it along the way and the highs and lows, especially the lows, have made this moment so much sweeter. I think I'm able to celebrate now and kind of breathe a little bit and just relax and play softball. The eyes are off a little bit and I can just go back to playing the game. I've been trying to do that along the way, but it gets tough. I'm excited and I know my teammates are excited to just see me back as a hitter.”

On if it's sunk in that she's atop the all-time home run list:
“No, but after the game I was thinking about it and realized that no one has ever gotten to 91. When I came to college I knew I wanted to pave a path that no one has been on and it's just… Stacey Nuveman. Stacey Nuveman. And to think I've hit one more home run than her, it's just like 'wow.' I don't think it's going to set in for a while, but I think when I take the jersey off for the last time and think back on those moments I'll realize what just happened. Right now it's so easy and nice to focus on my team and focus on celebrating with them. They've been making me feel so good throughout this whole process, and they've been there for me. They've hyped it down just a little bit to keep me level, which is outstanding and I appreciate them so much for that because I don't think I would've been able to do it without them.”

On the home run giving the team the lead en route to the win:
“It doesn't really seem too much like a selfish thing because in those at-bats I'm just trying to put the ball in play, and it's funny how that works out when I'm just trying to get a base hit for my team. Those are when my best at-bats come, not when I'm trying to do something selfish and do too much for me. I think the fact that since it was a conscious effort to put the team first before I get that hit, it played out the way I wanted it to in the end. To get back on top on the scoreboard with my team was a relief, as well, knowing we weren't down 2-0 anymore.”

Oklahoma Head coach Patty Gasso

On Chamberlain hitting No. 91:
“I'm feeling a sense of pride for Lauren's hard work and the way she's represented our program, not just as an athlete and a great hitter, but in every way, shape and form that she's represented us in such a fabulous way. To be able to connect history to our program, and to Lauren, is always going to be something special to us. She's left more than a legacy on our program. That's a very tough record to break, it really is, especially in this day and age with some great pitchers out there. Lauren's just been so clutch and has had some key home runs in important at-bats. I think we sometimes just take it for granted that we get to see it every day. She's pretty remarkable, and it's a moment we'll always remember.”

On her emotions during Chamberlain's at-bat:
“I'm like Lauren where I knew it, but my emotions were caught up in the game, and we weren't really performing the way we're capable of. Piggybacking off her remarks, it was more of me thinking, “okay, we're back in control,” and “thanks goodness she got it,” because now we can celebrate and move forward with our season.”
