NORMAN, Okla. – In the midst of a stretch of seven out of eight games on the road, the Oklahoma baseball team is in Norman for a midweek, Top-25 match-up with Dallas Baptist on Tuesday night. First pitch from L. Dale Mitchell Park is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
The No. 23 Sooners returned to the national polls this week following a series win at No. 25 Texas to push their record to 24-14 overall and 8-4 in the Big 12. Five players are hitting .300-or-better, led by junior center fielder Craig Aikin at .348, who collected the 200th hit of his OU career last Friday. Junior Kolbey Carpenter is second on the team at .340 with a team-high six home runs and a .542 slugging percentage. Redshirt-senior right fielder Taylor Alspaugh (.321), junior Anthony Hermelyn (.315) and sophomore shortstop Sheldon Neuse (.308) are also above .300 on the season. Neuse has driven in a team-leading 31 runs to go with five home runs and a team-high nine stolen bases. Junior right-hander Keaton Hernandez (0-1) toes the rubber for OU on Tuesday in his first career start. He holds a 2.95 earned run average in 21.1 innings of relief.
Once again, it's “Tasty Tuesday” at the yard with 50 cent hot dogs and soft drinks, while supplies last. The first 250 students in attendance will also receive free croakies.
Bedlam Tickets on Sale
Oklahoma is the home team at this year' “Bedlam Series”, which takes place May 1-3 with game one at Tulsa's ONEOK Field and the remaining two played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 14 at $22 per ticket for each game. Tickets will be available at the OU box office at Memorial Stadium or over the phone at 405-325-2424.
Dallas Baptist is 26-7 overall and off to an 8-4 start in the Missouri Valley Conference, while holding the nation's number-one RPI spot. Second baseman Drew Turbin leads the Patriots with a .366 average and 12 doubles for a .573 slugging percentage. The team has combined for 33 home runs, led by center fielder David Martinelli and DH Trooper Reynolds at seven, who have driven in 24 and 25 runs, respectively. Right-hander Trevor Conn (2-1) gets the start on Tuesday. He sports a 1.98 ERA in 27.1 innings pitched.
Oklahoma is ranked for the first time in 2015 as it reached No. 23 in the Collegiate Baseball News Top-30. The Sooners, who are 4-5 against ranked opponents this season, were last ranked on April 7, 2014 when they were No. 26 by CBN and No. 28 by NCBWA. The ranking marks the highest for OU under second-year head coach Pete Hughes.
