NORMAN – Following a record-setting performance over the weekend, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team has earned the nation's No. 1 ranking for the ninth consecutive week on Monday. With a program-record198.500 in their win over then-No.3 Florida, the Sooners were able to boost their Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) by more than one-tenth of a point to stay atop the latest listing.
RQS is based on a team's six best regular season scores, three of which must be away. The overall high score is eliminated, and the five remaining scores are averaged. As a result, Oklahoma's season-high score achieved over the weekend is not included in this week's RQS, but its previous best of 198.150 became eligible to help boost the Sooners to a new RQS of 197.845.
Oklahoma RQSThe rankings come after an outstanding Senior Night against the Gators in a rematch between the defending NCAA Co-Champion programs last Friday. OU toppled Florida by four-tenths of a point (198.500-198.100) and earned a spot at No. 6 on the NCAA all-time team scoring charts. The score is the highest in the country this season and shatters Oklahoma's previous program record of 198. 375.
The Sooners hold a top-three rank on each of the four events, maintaining a No. 1 national ranking on beam for a third consecutive week (49.460) while taking the No. 2 ranking on bars (49.475) and floor (49.470) and sitting at No. 3 on vault (49.495).
In addition, Oklahoma earned 15 individual rankings across all four events, the most of any team in the nation.
For the third straight week, sophomore Chayse Capps owns a spot at No. 1 in the nation on beam with an RQS of 9.940. She is also ranked No. 13 in the country on vault (9.915).
Capps leads four other Sooners in the beam rankings with Kara Lovan tying for seventh in the nation (9.895) and Haley Sorensen, Rebecca Clark and Erica Brewer all earning a share of the 12th-place spot (9.885).
Sophomore McKenzie Wofford leads Oklahoma in the bar rankings at No. 2 in the nation for the second straight week with a 9.940 RQS, followed by Brenna Dowell's seventh-place ranking (9.910), Haley Scaman tying for 10th (9.9) and Keeley Kmieciak sharing 13th (9.895).
In addition to her ranking on the uneven bars, Scaman also owns a No. 5 ranking on vault (9.940) and a tie for fourth in the nation on floor (9.940). With three top-25 rankings, she appears in the rankings this week more than any other Sooner.
Behind Scaman on floor, Dowell sits at No. 7 in the country while Ali Jackson (T-8, 9.925) and Lovan (T-17, 9.905) round out the rankings for Oklahoma on the apparatus.
The Sooners are set to complete their regular season campaign in Tuscaloosa, Ala. on Friday as they take on No. 5 Alabama at 7 p.m. before returning home for the first two contests of the post-season.
Oklahoma will host the Big 12 Championships on Saturday, March 21 at 5 p.m. and the NCAA Norman Regional on Saturday, April 4 at 3:45 p.m.
