Second-seed Oklahoma and No. 6 seed Texas will meet in the 4 p.m. semifinal Sunday at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
OPPONENT: NO. 6 SEED TEXAS
The Oklahoma Sooners will face Texas in the semifinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Sunday. The sixth-seeded Longhorns defeated No. 3 seed TCU 67-61 in the quarterfinals Saturday. Texas is currently 21-9 on the year and six of their last seven contests. The Longhorns are led by Kelsey Lang and Ariel Atkins. Lang is averaging 11.1 points and 6.4 rebounds, while Atkins is chipping in 10.5 points and 3.7 boards. Oklahoma and Texas split the season series. The Sooners upset then fourth-ranked Texas 70-59 in Norman, before dropping a 84-81 double-overtime setback to Texas in Austin. Oklahoma and Texas have met in the Big 12 Championship five times with the Longhorns winning three of the five meetings including a 82-72 win over the Sooners in the quarterfinals of the 2014 tournament. Oklahoma did defeat Texas in the 2004 title contest 66-47 to win its then-second Big 12 Championship crown.
INTERESTING NOTES AFTER THE WEST VIRIGNIA VICTORY
• Redshirt sophomore Peyton Little hit double-digits for the 22nd time with her 15-point outing against West Virginia (3/7). She has reached double-figures in 11th in the last 12 contests.
• The Sooners hit 11-of-12 from the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes against West Virginia (3/7). The 11 free throws tied the fourth most free throw made in the first half by Oklahoma this season. They would finish the game hitting 23-of-30. The 23 free throws was two off a Big 12 Tournament record for OU. The most free throws Oklahoma sank at the Big 12 Championship was 25 versus Baylor in 2007.
• Redshirt junior Kaylon Williams recorded her sixth double-double of the season and the third in the last seven games. She finished with 14 points and added 10 boards. Williams has reached double-figures now in five consecutive games, longest streak of the season for the Midwest City, Okla., native.
• Redshirt sophomore Maddie Manning played a season-high 30 minutes against West Virginia (3/7). The guard, who missed the last two seasons with season-ending knee injuries, finished with 11 points and a season-tying high six rebounds. It was her fourth double-digit performance of the season.
• It was the first Big 12 Championship game for five of the nine Oklahoma players who saw action. Peyton Little, Gabbi Ortiz, Vionise Pierre-Louis, Maddie Manning and LaNesia Williams saw their first Big 12 Tournament action. The five players accounted for 38 of the Sooners 67 points and 18 of the 40 rebounds.
• A 42.9 percent free throw shooter coming into the contest, freshman Vionise Pierre-Louis sank a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe, including all four in the second half.
• Oklahoma has now reached the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship in two of the last three seasons and six of the last seven.
