NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team was named the nation's No. 1 overall seed heading into NCAA postseason competition during Monday's selection show.
Pre-selected as one of six regional hosts this season, Oklahoma will welcome No. 12 Oregon State, No. 13 Penn State, Southern Utah, Missouri and NC State for the NCAA Norman Regional on Saturday, April 4 in the Lloyd Noble Center. The meet is set for a 3:45 p.m. CST start and tickets are on sale now.
In addition to the nation's top seed overall, Oklahoma earned a No. 1 regional seed for the sixth consecutive season with a nation-leading regional qualifying score (RQS) of 197.895. The Sooners captured the program's fourth straight Big 12 title last weekend—a conference record—and will pursue a sixth consecutive regional title and 12th straight NCAA Championship berth in the NCAA Norman Regional.
The Sooners have not faced any of the teams in the Norman regional field this season. Oregon State finished fourth at the Pac-12 Championships last weekend in Utah, while Penn State was fourth in the Big Ten Championship meet in Michigan.
In addition to qualifying teams, Oklahoma will welcome individual all-around competitors and event qualifiers from Illinois-Chicago, Arizona State, Lindenwood, Southeast Missouri, Texas Women's, Northern Illinois and Illinois State.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six predetermined host sites.
The top two finishing teams from each NCAA regional will advance to the 2015 NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. The meet is set for April 17-19 in the Fort Worth Convention Center. Semifinal competition will take place on April 17 and the Super Six team finals are set for April 18. The championship will close on April 19 with individual event finals and award presentation.
