INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – The top-ranked Oklahoma men's tennis team made quick work of first round opponent Purdue Friday morning at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge presented by Oracle. Oklahoma (15-1) dispatched Purdue (4-8) 4-0 in less than 90 minutes.

“We played well this morning,” head coach John Roddick said. “Doubles was better and we did a good job of finishing off the singles quickly.”

The Sooners jumped out to a quick start, winning the first two doubles matches that finished. Sophomores Alex Ghilea and Andrew Harris, ranked No. 69, finished first for Oklahoma with a 6-0 sweep of Arthur Dobradin and Hanayama at No. 2 doubles. OU's top pair of junior Axel Alvarez and senior Dane Webb, ranked No. 6 by the ITA, clinched the doubles points for OU, defeating Diego Acosta and Ricky Medinilla 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

With the doubles outcome decided, the remaining match at No. 3 doubles was not finished. This was the ninth time OU has won the doubles point this year. The Sooners are undefeated when doing so.

Leading 1-0, OU needed to win just three of the six singles matches to take the win. Playing at No. 6 singles, Jose Salazar was the first Sooner to finish. The sophomore routed Matt Bouggy in straight sets without giving up a single game. Salazar had missed the Sooners' last four matches with an injury.

Sophomore Alex Ghilea pushed the Sooners' lead to 3-0 when he delivered another win at No. 3 singles. Ghilea joined Salazar in not giving up a single game, topping Mateus Silva 6-0, 6-0. The win is Ghilea's 10^th of the season in dual play.

The clinching point came from a familiar place for OU. Playing at No. 5 singles, sophomore Florin Bragusi made quick work of Lucas Dages, winning 6-2, 6-1. Bragusi has clinched the Sooners' last three consecutive matches including comeback, 4-3 wins at Ohio State and at home against Virginia. The win moves Bragusi's unblemished dual play record to 6-0.

The Sooners had won first sets on all three remaining courts and were leading in the second sets. The matches were not finished. In total, Oklahoma gave up only 16 games on the day and did not drop a set. Oklahoma is now 15-1 on the year and has won its last five matches. The win also marks the fourth time this season OU has shut out its opponent.

By virtue of the win, Oklahoma advances to the second round of play Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. The Sooners will face No. 29 Columbia. The Sooners faced Columbia earlier in the season at the MLK Invitational in hidden dual format and did not record a team result.
