OU-Iowa State Postgame Quotes

Return to Recap

Head Coach Lon Kruger
Opening comment:
“Not the second half we needed. I thought when Iowa State started driving the ball at us we didn't do the job we needed to keep it in front of us. They got some momentum off that and made some 3's and had everything going that they wanted, and we didn't do the things we needed to do in the second half at all. Good first half, obviously second half not at all what we needed. (Georges) Niang off the dribble was tough. (Monté) Morris off the dribble was tough. They were creating opportunities for them, and we've got to guard them better.”

On if he had ever seen a swing in momentum like this game:
“It happens. This was a pretty high degree, of course, of that tonight. It happens. They're a good ball club. What they did in the first half wasn't likely to happen in the second half, and they responded well.”

On if his team contributed to Iowa State's run:
“We contributed to it for sure. We didn't do the things we needed to do offensively. We didn't guard them very well off the dribble. They got the confidence and the momentum and kept it going.”

On the magnitude of Isaiah Cousins' technical foul:
“That's two points. I don't know that it was anything more than that. I hate to see that happen at any point. Isaiah just applauding the blocked shot and he shouldn't have done it.”

On Iowa State's second-half run:
“They came out and got going after the first TV timeout. Their energy level went up. They made some shots. They were quicker at everything. In the first half we won all those battles and didn't in the second half.”

On the conference:
“One game left. Conference has been a great battle and tough every night you line up. It's a great league and there are a lot of teams playing very well.”

Junior Guard Buddy Hield
On what caused Iowa State's second-half run:
“We broke down and they capitalized off it. We had turnovers and they got going in transition and made some 3's to get them back in the game. We should have done a better job.”

On if his team got too comfortable with a 21-point lead:
“We weren't too comfortable. We know what they're capable of doing. At halftime I told the guys to stay poised. They made their run. It's tough playing when that crowd is going crazy, but they did their job. We had a good first half and they responded back to us. We just have to do a better job executing and getting better shots when they make big runs like that.”
