Copping kept the Sooners in the game with six-strong innings of one-run ball as he moved to 3-0.

HONOLULU – The University of Oklahoma baseball team wrapped its four-game set at Hawai'i with a 6-3 win at Les Murakami Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Sooners, who won their third straight series, improved to 15-8, while the Rainbow Warriors dropped to 7-13.

Oklahoma's bats were quiet through the first six innings with only two hits and no runs on the scoreboard. Trailing 1-0 heading to the seventh, a pair of walks and a bunt-single by redshirt-senior designated hitter Robert Tasin (Klein, Texas) loaded the bases with no outs. The tying run came in on a 6-4-3 double play and the Sooners took the lead on an error by the UH second baseman.

Junior right-hander Corey Copping (Temple City, Calif.) threw six innings and despite leaving the game down 1-0 walked away with the win to move to 3-0 on the season. He allowed only one run on six hits and no walks to go with seven strikeouts.

In the eighth, Oklahoma tacked on three more runs on three hits and three walks. Two walks and a bunt-single by junior center fielder Craig Aikin (Coppell, Texas) loaded the bases with no outs. The Sooners scratched across a run on a bases-loaded walk to sophomore shortstop Sheldon Neuse (Fort Worth, Texas) and another 6-4-3 double play. The third run of the inning came in on a single through the right side by junior left fielder Kolbey Carpenter (Waco, Texas).

Aikin and redshirt-senior right fielder Taylor Alspaugh (Broken Arrow, Okla.) finished the top of the ninth with back-to-back, two-out singles to plate another OU run.

Hawai'i made the game interesting in the bottom of the ninth against Sooner junior RHP Keaton Hernandez (Palm Springs, Calif.); working into his third inning of relief. Two singles and a fielder's choice/error brought in one run and put two runners on with nobody out. Tasin moved to the mound to finish the game and pick up his first save of the season.

Left-hander Jarrett Arakawa pitched five innings of shutout ball in the start for the Warriors. He allowed just two hits and no walks to go with a pair of strikeouts. Right-hander Josh Pigg (0-2) took the loss in one inning of relief. He surrendered two runs, one earned, on one hit and two walks.

Aikin finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Carpenter and Tasin each recorded two-hit games.

The Sooners are off until Big 12 play comes to Norman on Friday, March 20 against Texas Tech at 6:00 pm.
