Return to Recap
Head Coach Lon Kruger
Opening Statement:
"I was expecting a really tough game. TCU's been playing everyone tough. Our guys knew that. I thought TCU made a good run there in the first half. The real key was our run to end the first half. I thought we started the second half with a lot of energy and we had a lot of guys making good plays. Road wins are always hard."
On his team's second half start:
"I thought our energy picked up defensively. They hurt us badly on the offensive boards all day. During that run they didn't get any (offensive boards) back and that was the key. We had a couple transition plays going the other way. We finished it off with a good play there late."
Junior Forward Ryan Spangler
On key post play:
"I think they were denying our guards really well. They got it inside on me and were making some plays early. So we kept going back to that and if they collapsed we would throw it back out to our shooters."
TCU Head Coach Trent Johnson
Opening Statement:
"They did a really good job of shading a man on Kyan (Anderson). They were making it tough for him to get open looks. We had a couple bad turnovers, missed a couple open shots and because they are so skilled and deserving of their ranking, we fell behind. They are active with their hands, they challenge shots and there's a reason why they are as good as they are."
On Kenrich Williams:
"He's a good player. Regardless of what the score is, it's not going to dictate his effort. He had five turnovers, but a lot of them had to do with him being around the rim, rebounding the ball and trying to get the ball back up on the rim."
On the team's mistakes:
"We have to make open shots and we have to make our free throws. We have to constantly talk and believe that we all have a responsibility. As coaches, your responsibility is to make sure guys are in positions to get open shots. Where their responsibility is to knock down those shots. Free throws and open shots. This afternoon, there were a lot of guys that were open who have to shoot the ball with confidence and score. But we have to understand that we have to continue to fight."
TCU Sophomore Forward Kenrich Williams
On having an aggressive nature:
"I am just trying to play hard every time and go for every loose ball. Anything around the rim I try to go after. I know I am not the best scorer but if I can take things off the rim or get back to play defense, it will help the team."
On defensive effort:
"We gave up a lot of offensive rebounds that led to some easy shots. Luckily we were able to put our hands on them and get a couple blocks. We can't give up that many offensive rebounds and expect to win that many times. But we got quite a few blocks around the basket."
