Maddie Manning // RS-So. // G

Maddie Manning has been all-around spark off the bench for Oklahoma in Big 12 Conference play. The redshirt sophomore - who still has three years of eligibility after knee injuries derailed back-to-back seasons for her - is chipping in 7.4 points per contest in league action. Manning is contributing more than points though in 17.2 minutes per game. The guard is also grabbing 2.3 rebounds, passing out 1.3 assists and blocking a team-best 0.9 blocks a game. She has hit 31 free throws - second most on the team - and is sinking an impressive 50.0 percent (16-of-32) from the field.

Oklahoma plays Baylor for the frst time this season. The Sooners head to Waco, Texas for the match-up between the top two teams in the Big 12 standings. The game is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m.

WHAT'S ON TAP

The Oklahoma women's basketball team closes out a two-game home stand Saturday hosting Kansas State at 2 p.m. The Sooners are coming off a 75-66 victory over Iowa State Wednesday and enter into the contest with an 8-2 Big 12 record. The Wildcats upset 20th-ranked Texas 66-57 Wednesday and are now 4-6 in conference.

A LOOK AT THE BIG 12 SEASON

• Oklahoma has opened the Big 12 with an 8-2 record. The Sooners won their first seven league games before being dealt a loss. OU's first loss in leauge play came on Jan. 29 when it fell in double-overtime to 13th-ranked Texas 84-81. The Sooners lost a second-straight - a 79-68 setback at West Virginia, Feb. 1 - but bounced back Wednesday with a 9-point win over Iowa State.
• Oklahoma began Big 12 action winning at least eight of its first 10 contests six other times under head coach Sherri Coale. In 2008-09, the Sooners opened league 10-0; in 1999-00, 200-01, 2001-02 they had an 9-1 record over the first 10 contests and in 2007-08 they started 8-2.
• In winning their first seven Big 12 games, the Sooners had to defeat two then-ranked opponents. OU upset then-fourth ranked Texas 70-59 at the Lloyd Noble Center, Jan. 14 and defeated then-20th ranked Oklahoma State, 73-54, Jan. 19.
• All but two of Oklahoma's Big 12 victories have been by double-figure points. The two single-digit Big 12 win this season was a 70-64 victory over Texas Tech, Jan. 24 and a 75-66 win over Iowa State, Feb. 4.
• The Sooners are a perfect 5-0 in league when playing at the Lloyd Noble Center and are 3-2 when playing on the road.

THREE

Freshman point guard Gabbi Ortiz has registered double-figure points for three consecutive games. It is the first time in her collegiate career she has strung together multiple double-digit contests. The starting point guard had registered four double-figure performances prior to this stretch starting. Ortiz is averaging 11.2 points over the last three contests, hit 14-of-34 from the field (41.2 percent) and is perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

TWELVE

The Oklahoma women's basketball team has won 12-straight games at the Lloyd Noble Center, dating back to Feb. 19, 2014. The Sooners are a perfect 9-0 when playing at the LNC this year. They won all four non-conference games at the Lloyd Noble Center and are currently 5-0 when playing at home against Big 12 competition. OU has won this season's home games by an average of 17.7 points per contest. Its biggest victory was a 49-point win over Bradley, Nov. 21. Its largest Big 12 win was a 19-point victory over Oklahoma State, Jan. 19.  The Sooners closest win was a six-point victory over Texas Tech Jan. 24. 

FIFTEEN.NINE

It's been amazing Big 12 Conference season thus far for sophomore guard Gioya Carter. Carter is averaging a team-best 15.9 points per game and is third on the team in rebounds per game at 5.1. She has registered double-figure points in all but two league games, has hit 20-plus points three different times and is shooting an impressive 45.4 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from the 3-point arc, hitting a team-most 18-of-36. It is a much different output than her pre-conference play. Carter averaged 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11 contests and hit double-figures just twice.

SEVENTY-FOUR.FIVE

Oklahoma had been struggling at the free throw line in non-conference action but has been noticeably better in Big 12 play. For the season, Oklahoma hit just 61.7 percent in pre-conference play and is now sinking 74.7 percent of its free throws in league action. On the year, their average sits at 68.3 percent from the charity stripe, Since the holiday break, the Sooners have had their best free throw shooting outing (90.0 percent vs. Yale, Dec. 30) and recorded eight of its top nine performances from the charity stripe.

PREVIEWING KANSAS STATE

Kansas State enters into its game with Oklahoma holding a 14-7 overall record and a 4-6 mark in Big 12 play. The Wildcats are on a 3-game winning streak. The streak started with a 52-51 overtime victory over Oklahoma State, Jan. 28. It continued with a 41-38 win at Texas Tech, Jan. 31. Their most recent victory was a 9-point upset (66-57) of 20th-ranked Texas, Feb. 4. Breanna Lewis is the lone Kansas State player averaging double-figures at 11.2. Ashia Woods is chipping in 9.3 points and a team-best 6.9 rebounds per contest. The Wildcats are coached by Jeff Mittie, in his first year at the helm.

Kansas State was picked to place ninth in the Big 12 in 2014-15. 

What the Wildcats returned: Kansas State returned 10 letterwinners, including two starters, from its squad that finished 11-19 overall and 5-13 in the Big 12 last season. The Wildcats' top returnees are seniors Ashia Woods and Haley Texada. Woods averaged 10.1 points per game as a junior, while Texada chipped in 7.5 points per contest in 2013-14.

OKLAHOMA-KANSAS STATE SERIES

Oklahoma leads the all-time series with Iowa State 34-23 and split the series a season ago. When the Wildcats defeated the Sooners (86-78) in Manhattan on Jan. 29, 2014 it snapped a 14-game losing skid to OU that dated back 10 years. Oklahoma had not lost to Kansas State since Jan. 31, 2004 when it dropped a 74-65 decision, also in Manhattan, Kan. The last time the Sooners lost to the Wildcats in Norman was Feb. 1, 2003. OU has won 7-straight over Kansas State at the Lloyd Noble Center.
