Friday night's meet between No. 1 OU and No. 2 Illinois is still on despite the campus being closed and is Fan Appreciation Night, meaning admission to see the highly touted matchup is free. The Sooners and Fighting Illini each put their perfect 10-0 records on the line in a matchup of the last two unbeaten programs in the country. The meet is still scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. CT and will take place in McCasland Field House.
For fans who have already purchased a single meet ticket for Friday evening there will be an opportunity to exchange it for a tickent to the next home meet on Saturday, March 14 at the Lloyd Noble Center, as OU takes on Ohio State.
Fans can find the meet live on Fox Sports Oklahoma and can stream the action through the Fox Sports Go app. Bill Doleman will be on the call with the play-by-play and will be joined by former Sooner greats and current US National Team members Jake Dalton and Steven Legendre. Live updates and photos from McCasland Field House will be available at on Twitter at @OU_MGymnastics.
Bring the kids to Friday's meet, as there will be face painting and balloon artists for entertainment. It is Cleveland Elementary Night and the students will be helping run the meet in a number of ways. There will also be an art gallery in the lobby and hallway of the works the students made for the OU athletes.
• Sophomore Allan Bower is the latest in the long lineage of Sooner gymnasts to earn a spot on the U.S. Senior Men's National Team. Bower turned in two quality performances at the Winter Cup in Las Vegas, Nev., last weekend to earn a score of 171.700 for a seventh-place finish. The score was the second highest among all collegiate athletes at the Winter Cup. Bower's best individual event finish came on the pommel horse, as he placed fifth with a two-session score of 29.600.
• The last time OU stepped foot in McCasland nearly two weeks ago was a memorable evening, as the Sooners shattered the all-time NCAA record for team score by posting a mark of 456.400. The Crimson and Cream are the first team to ever exceed a score of 450. During the performance the Sooners set four team records on events, including floor exercise (76.650), pommel horse (76.150), still rings (76.500) and high bar (77.050).
• Oklahoma junior Kanji Oyama had the best performance of his career last time out vs. Michigan. Oyama recorded an all-around score of 91.000, which is the highest score in the country this season and a career best. Oyama's 91.000 puts his name beside the likes of former OU legends Jake Dalton and Steven Legendre for a tie for seventh in the Oklahoma record book. The junior posted five scores above the 15.000 threshold, with his highest coming in a 15.350 on floor exercise.
• The perfect 10-0 record by the Sooners only scratches the surface of showing how dominant the team has been in 2015. Oklahoma has posted the highest event individual score in 22 of 24 events so far this season, with 11 Sooners combining to claim the 22 top scores. The Crimson and Cream swept first-place finishes at the Rocky Mountain Open, the tri-meet at Iowa and the home-opener vs. Michigan. Oklahoma has yet to suffer a defeat in the floor exercise, still rings, vault or high bar events.
• Friday's showdown with the Fighting Illini marks the first meet for both sides in 2015 of the five-up five-count scoring system. In the first half of the season six gymnasts perform each event with five scores counting but now through the rest of the season only five perform with all five scores counting, leaving less margin for error.
After spending nearly a month at home the Sooners will be back on the road next weekend as the squad heads to California to take on Cal-Berkley on Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m.
