Seven Sooners Named Academic All-Big 12

NORMAN- Four University of Oklahoma women's basketball players were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the conference office announced Thursday.
Senior Sharane Campbell-Olds, junior Nicole Kornet, redshirt sophomore Maddie Manning and sophomore Derica Wyatt each represented Oklahoma on the 26-member first team.
The Sooners added three student-athletes to the second team for a total of seven OU athletes recognized. Earning a spot on the second team was sophomore T'ona Edwards, redshirt sophomore Peyton Little and senior Whitney Ritchie.
A total of 40 student-athletes made up the Academic Big 12 Team, with 26 on the first team and 16 on the second. Texas led all teams with eight total honorees, while Oklahoma was second with its seven.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. First team honorees have a 3.20 GPA or higher and second team members have a GPA of 3.00-3.19.
Oklahoma First Team Honorees (3.20-Plus GPA)
Senior Sharane Campbell-Olds (Health and Exercise Science)
· This is Campbell-Olds second Academic All-Big 12 honor. She was tabbed to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 first team.
· Current stats: 9.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg, shooting 49.7% from the field.
Junior Nicole Kornet (Communication)
· This is Kornet's second Academic All-Big 12 honor. She was tabbed to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 second team.
· Current stats: 5.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 41.3% from the field.
Redshirt sophomore Maddie Manning (Communication)
· This is Manning's first Academic All-Big 12 honor.
· Current stats: 4.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 46.0% from the field.
Sophomore Derica Wyatt (Health and Exercise Science)
· This is Wyatt's first Academic All-Big 12 honor.
· Current stats: 3.1 ppg, 1.0 rpg, has hit 18 3-pointers.
Oklahoma Second Team Honorees (3.00-3.19 GPA)
Sophomore T'ona Edwards (Human Relations)
· This is Wyatt's first Academic All-Big 12 honor.
· Current stats: 1.0 ppg, 1.1 rpg, has passed out 28 assists.
Redshirt sophomore Peyton Little (Planned Program)
· This is Wyatt's first Academic All-Big 12 honor.
· Current stats: 12.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg, shooting 43.3% from the field.
Senior Whitney Ritchie (Planned Program)
· This is Ritchie's first women's basketball Academic All-Big 12 honor.
· Ritchie was named to the 2013 women's tennis Academic All-Big 12 team.
· Current stats: 1.3 ppg, 0.2 rpg, shooting 50.0% from the field.
