OKLAHOMA CITY -- With a win at the Perfect 10 Challenge, the No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is now a perfect 10-0.
The Sooners rose past No. 21 Kentucky on Friday night by a final margin of 197.275-194.425, capturing team titles on every event and individual crowns on vault, bars and floor.
Sophomore Chayse Capps took top honors on vault with a 9.95, while McKenzie Wofford captured the uneven bars crown with her 9.925 performance. Ali Jackson and Haley Scaman tied for the floor exercise title with identical scores of 9.925.
Kentucky's Sydney Waltz took top honors on balance beam with a 9.875.
The Sooners opened with a powerful rotation on vault, soaring to a 49.475 behind Capps' career-high-tying 9.95. Brenna Dowell tied her career high as well, nailing her Yurchenko 1.5 for a 9.9 in the No. 3 position. Scaman hit a massive vault in the anchor position for a 9.925 to aid the Sooners as well.
Oklahoma also counted on strong vaulting performances from Keeley Kmieciak and Jackson as each earned 9.85s on the evening.
OU picked up an early lead over Kentucky in the first rotation, leaping out to a 49.475-48.800 advantage. The Wildcats earned a 48.800 on uneven bars behind a 9.85 from Cori Rechenmacher.
Paced by Wofford's meet-high 9.925, the Sooners added a 49.275 on uneven bars in the second rotation. Kmieciak snapped up a 9.9 with a big routine in the No. 2 position, while Dowell earned a 9.875. Scaman added a 9.8 in the No. 5 spot, while Rebecca Clark hit a 9.775 in the lead-off spot.
Kentucky earned a 48.575 on vault in the second rotation that included team-best 9.775s from Sydney Waltz and Shannon Mitchell. After two rotations, Oklahoma extended its lead to 98.750-97.375.
Oklahoma battled to a 49.075 on beam in the third rotation that included team-best marks of 9.85 from Capps and Clark. Sophomore Kara Lovan hit a steady routine for a 9.825 in the No. 3 spot, while Erica Brewer added a 9.8 in the No. 5 position Kmieciak and Haley Sorensen rounded things out for OU with identical scores of 9.75.
The Wildcats added a 48.600 on floor on their third event of the evening, with Taylor Puryear's 9.775 taking top marks for UK. With only one rotation to go, Oklahoma held a commanding 147.825-145.975 lead over Kentucky.
A spark from the top half of the lineup paced OU to a 49.450 on floor in the final rotation with Jackson and Scaman's 9.925s leading the way. Dowell earned a 9.9 with her big routine in the No. 4 position, while Lovan triggered the uptick in scoring with a 9.875 in the No. 3 spot. Erica Brewer and Capps started the Sooners on a strong note in the front of the lineup with 9.825 efforts.
Kentucky capped its evening with a 48.450 on beam that included Waltz's meet-high 9.875 in the No. 4 position.
Oklahoma will hit the road again next weekend to take on a top-five foe in No. 5 Michigan. The Sooners and the Wolverines are set to square off on Friday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. CT in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet will stream live on BTN2Go and air on tape delay the following night on BTN.
The Sooners will return to Norman on March 6 to face defending NCAA co-champion Florida at the Lloyd Noble Center. The meet is slated for a 6:45 p.m. start.
