Gioya Carter // So. // G

It's been stellar Big 12 Conference season thus far for sophomore guard Gioya Carter. Carter is averaging a team-best 14.3 points per game and tied for second on the team in rebounds per game at 4.9. She has registered double-figure points in all but four league games, has hit 20-plus points three different times and is shooting an impressive 41.7 percent from the field and 46.5 percent from the 3-point arc, hitting 20-of-43. It is a much different output than her pre-conference play. Carter averaged 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11 contests and hit double-figures just twice.

WHAT'S ON TAP

Oklahoma women's basketball hosts TCU at the Lloyd Noble Center Saturday in its annual Play4Kay contest. The game is set to tip at 3 p.m. The Sooner return to the friendly confines of the LNC with a 15-8 overall mark and a second play Big 12 Record of 9-3. The Horned Frogs are 14-9, tied for third in the Big 12 at 6-6 and are coming off a 93-79 setback at Kansas State.

A LOOK AT THE BIG 12 SEASON

• Oklahoma has opened the Big 12 with a 9-3 record. The Sooners won their first seven league games before being dealt a loss. OU's first loss in leauge play came on Jan. 29 when it fell in double-overtime to 13th-ranked Texas 84-81. The Sooners lost a second-straight - a 79-68 setback at West Virginia, Feb. 1 - but bounced back Feb. 4 with a 9-point win over Iowa State.
• In winning their first seven Big 12 games, the Sooners had to defeat two then-ranked opponents. OU upset then-fourth ranked Texas 70-59 at the Lloyd Noble Center, Jan. 14 and defeated then-20th ranked Oklahoma State, 73-54, Jan. 19.
• All but three of Oklahoma's Big 12 victories have been by double-figure points. The three single-digit Big 12 wins this season were a 70-64 victory over Texas Tech, Jan. 24, a 75-66 win over Iowa State, Feb. 4 and a 66-58 win over K-State, Feb. 7.
• The Sooners are a perfect 6-0 in league when playing at the Lloyd Noble Center and are 3-3 when playing on the road.
• Oklahoma was dealt its largest deficit of the season Feb. 11. The Sooners fell 89-66 to No. 3 Baylor. Their largest deficit prior to their 23-point loss was 20 to then No. 13 Duke, Dec. 17.

PEYTON LITTLE SCORING POINTS

Redshirt sophomore Peyton Little has not only scored double-figure points in each of the last five games for the Sooners but has tied or broken her career-high in points over the last three contests. Little, averaging 18.0 points per game over the previous five games, tied a career-high in points with 18 in the Sooners victory over Iowa State, Feb. 4. She broke her career-high the next contest, finishing with 19 points in OU's win over Kansas State, Feb. 7.  She again re-broke her career-high in Oklahoma's loss at No. 3 Baylor, Feb. 11 with 22 points. Little drained a career-high eight field goals, including a career-tying high five 3-pointers, en route to her first 20-plus point outing of her career. 

FIVE 

Freshman point guard Gabbi Ortiz has registered double-figure points for five consecutive games. It is the first time in her collegiate career she has strung together multiple double-digit contests. The starting point guard had registered just four double-figure performances prior to this stretch starting. Ortiz is averaging 12.4 points over the last five contests, hit 23-of-49 from the field (46.9 percent) and is perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.  In OU's most recent game - a loss at No. 3 Baylor - Ortiz scored a new career-high of 16 points.

FIFTEEN.NINE

It's been amazing Big 12 Conference season thus far for sophomore guard Gioya Carter. Carter is averaging a team-best 15.9 points per game and is third on the team in rebounds per game at 5.1. She has registered double-figure points in all but two league games, has hit 20-plus points three different times and is shooting an impressive 45.4 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from the 3-point arc, hitting a team-most 18-of-36. It is a much different output than her pre-conference play. Carter averaged 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11 contests and hit double-figures just twice.

BEYOND THE 3-POINT ARC

Oklahoma sank 11 3-pointers - including nine in the second half - in its loss at No. 3 Baylor, Feb. 11. The 11 3-pointers are the most in a Big 12 game for OU this season. Its previous best in league this season was nine hit against Iowa State, Feb. 4. The Sooners have now hit double-figure 3-pointers in four games this season: 11 versus Lamar (Nov. 18), 10 versus South Florida (Nov. 27), 13 against Duke (Dec. 17) and 11 against Baylor. In the loss to Baylor, Peyton Little drained a career-high five 3-pointers, while freshman Gabbi Ortiz chipped in three. Ortiz leads the Sooners in 3-pointers made with 38, followed by Little's 28.

PREVIEWING TCU

TCU enters into its game with Oklahoma holding a 14-9 overall record and a 6-6 mark in Big 12 play. The .500 record in league has the Horned Frogs tied for third in the standings with Iowa State. TCU is coming off a 93-79 setback at Kansas State Wednesday. The Horned Frogs are led by Zahna Medley at 15.6 points per game. Veja Hamilton is chipping 11.8 points per contest, while Chelsea Prince is averaging 11.2 points and a team-best 6.0 rebounds a game.

What the Horned Frogs returned: TCU returned nine letterwinners, including four starters, from its squad that finished 18-15 overall and 8-10 in the Big 12 last season. Zahna Medley and Natalie Ventress led the Horned Frogs in 2013-14  with averages of 17.1 points and 11.6 points per game, respectively. TCU earned a big to the WNIT a season ago and is coached by first-year head coach Raegan Pebley. 

OKLAHOMA-TCU SERIES

Oklahoma leads the all-time series with TCU 16-4. Two schools split the series a season ago, each winning on its home court. The Sooners had won four-straight over the Horned Frogs before they fell 76-66 in Fort Worth March 1, 2014. This season, Oklahoma took a 97-81 victory over TCU in the first meeting between the two schools.
