NOTES AND NUMBERS FOR WEEK SIX
BACK IN OKLAHOMA
The top-ranked OU women's gymnastics team will return to the Sooner State this week after a three-meet road stretch dating back to Jan. 29. Oklahoma is set to take part in the annual Perfect 10 Challenge in Oklahoma City on Friday night, facing the No. 21 Kentucky Wildcats at 6:45 p.m. in the Cox Convention Center arena. OU is 3-0 in the state of Oklahoma this season, averaging a 197.738 between two meets in Norman.
FIRST TIMES FIVE
Oklahoma earned its fifth straight week at No. 1 in the nation on Monday, but the first-place rankings didn't stop there. The Sooners became the first team in NCAA gymnastics since 2011 to sweep No. 1 rankings on every event, posting the nation's best average on vault (49.467), uneven bars (49.438), balance beam (49.279) and floor exercise (49.396). OU is one of only four programs to achieve a No. 1 sweep since 1997, joining Florida, Georgia and UCLA.
BREAK 198
Oklahoma became the first team in 2015 to break the 198-mark last weekend at Iowa State, achieving the feat under an hour before LSU also posted a 198.075 team score at home. Oklahoma's 198.150 win over ISU marked the nation's top team score so far this season. With the score, OU owns two of the nation's top-three team scores this season. Oklahoma's season average of 197.569 is also higher than six of the nation's top 10 teams' highest individual score on the year (see chart at right).
SOPHOMORE STANDOUTS
Sophomores Chayse Capps, Kara Lovan and McKenzie Wofford have become major players for OU this season on all four events. Capps is tied for No. 1 in the nation on balance beam, boasting an average of 9.917 that includes four straight scores of 9.9 or higher. Wofford is No. 4 nationally on uneven bars and has won or tied for top honors on the event in three consecutive meets this season. Lovan has become a staple on beam and floor for Oklahoma, rising to a career-high ranking of No. 6 in the country on beam while earning five consecutive scores of 9.9-plus on floor.
