NORMAN - After earning the nation's highest team score of the season last weekend, two members of the top-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics team claimed spots on the Big 12 weekly honor listing Wednesday.
Sophomore Chayse Capps captured her first Big 12 Gymnast of the Week honor and classmate McKenzie Wofford picked up her third Event Specialist of the Week honor this season.
The duo helped the Sooners enter the week as the NCAA's first team since 2011 to be ranked No. 1 overall and No. 1 on every event nationally.
Capps seized Gymnast of the Week honors after putting together a huge night against the Cyclones with contributions on vault, beam and floor. Her stellar routines on vault and beam earned a pair of 9.95s to record season-highs on both apparatuses and tie her career-best on vault. She also earned a 9.825 on floor exercise to aid Oklahoma.
Capps shared the event title on vault with junior Haley Scaman and captured the crown outright on beam. The two titles tally the fourth beam title and second vault title of the season for the sophomore.
A staple for the Sooners in the bar lineup, Wofford earned Event Specialist of the Week honors after capturing her third-straight title on bars this season. Her effort in Ames earned her a 9.95, tying her season-best and marking her sixth 9.9 or higher on the event this year.
The performance boosted Wofford to a fourth-place national ranking on bars for Oklahoma's highest individual ranking on the event.
Oklahoma is headed to OKC this weekend for the annual Perfect 10 Challenge at the Cox Convention Center. The meet will pit the Sooners against No. 21 Kentucky at 6:45 p.m. on Friday night, and tickets are on sale now.
