Morgan Rich to Join OU Women's Basketball

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma women's basketball coach Sherri Coale announced the addition of Kentucky transfer Morgan Rich to the OU roster on Wednesday.

Rich will join the Sooners prior to the start of their Big 12 slate. She will sit out the remainder of the 2015-16 season and for the fall semester of the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

"It is a rare and special opportunity when you have the chance to acclimate a talented young player into your program for a year before competition," Coale said. "Morgan came to visit us and had an immediate rapport with our players, and it was obvious that she has a passion for basketball and that she wants to play a role in helping our team be successful. We can't wait for her to get to Norman."

The 5-10 guard from Scottsville, Ky., signed with Kentucky but left the program prior to the start of the 2015-16 season. Rich, who was ranked the No. 30 player in the nation in the class of 2015 by ESPN Hoop Gurlz, averaged 20.0 points and 7.1 rebounds at Allen County-Scottsville (Ky.) High School during her senior year.

Rich led Allen-County Scottsville to the KHSAA state championship game during the 2014-15 season and earned all-state first-team honors. She finished her high school career with a school record 2,433 points and set the program's single-game scoring record with 45 points. As a junior, Rich averaged 20.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

The Sooners return to action on Dec. 30 and kick off their Big 12 slate against Kansas at Lloyd Noble Center.
