NORMAN Peyton Little poured in a team-high 25 points to lead seven Sooners in double figures as the No. 17/18 Oklahoma women's basketball team rolled past Southwestern Oklahoma State 111-73 in an exhibition game Wednesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center.

“I thought we did some good things,” head coach Sherri Coale said following the win. “We played in spurts. We played in three-minute segments that were 'wow' and then we had the first five minutes of the second half which was miserable. We bounced back from that and the guys who came in responded to that and changed the tone again. I thought we did some really good things.”

Wednesday's exhibition also provided OU the chance to play under the new NCAA rules format.

“I love the new rules and I love the quarters,” Coale explained. "I felt like the first half went by so fast. I did learn, because we didn't burn timeouts in the first half, that getting to that first media, people were a little gassed and we have to figure that thing out. Nobody was fouling, so there were hardly any stoppages of play. There was a lot of up and down going on, playing hard, so we have to adjust to that. It'll take me a little bit to figure out the substitution pattern, but I like the division. I think it makes us more cognizant of fouling specifically.”

The Sooners built an early advantage against the Bulldogs thanks to a 12-2 OU run to begin the first quarter. Little sparked OU's offense in the first two quarters, leading the way with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting in the opening half while knocking down 4-of-5 from the free throw line. The junior finished the night with 25 points on 9-of-16 from the floor along with three assists.

SWOSU closed the advantage at 15-15 with 3:23 left in the first quarter, but the Sooners responded quickly and closed the first half by outscoring the Bulldogs 44-19.

Junior Maddie Manning also scored 15 points for OU, while sophomore Vionise-Pierre Louis added in 15 on 7-of-10 shooting off the bench. In her first action at OU, freshman forward Ijeoma Odimgbe chipped in 13 points along with five rebounds and two blocks. Other Sooners in double figures were Kaylon Williams (11 points), T'ona Edwards (11 points) and LaNesia Williams (10 points).

OU dominated the boards in the win, out-rebounding the Bulldogs by a 64-48 margin. Gabbi Ortiz led all players with 10 rebounds, while Manning corralled nine. Ortiz also led the team with five assists and collected two blocks in 20 minutes of action.

11 of OU's players saw action in the game, including 10 in the first half. The Sooners put up 99 shots in the game, finishing the night with a .414 field goal percentage.

The Bulldogs were led by Jennifer Williams' 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor.

The Sooners open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 13 against Winthrop at 7 p.m. at the Lloyd Noble Center. The game will be televised by Fox College Sports Central. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the OU Athletics Tickets Office at (800) 456-4668.
