Sophomore T'ona Edwards was a big spark off the bench for the Sooners in their Big 12 opening win over West Virginia. Edwards finished the game playing a season-high 17 minutes. The guard tallied a season-high in points with eight - four coming in each half - and made a career-high three steals. |

SOONERS HIT THE ROAD
The Oklahoma women's basketball team heads to Lawrence, Kan. for its first Big 12 road contest of the season. The Sooners (7-5, 1-0 Big 12) battle the Jayhawks (9-5, 0-1 Big 12) Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. The game can been seen online on ESPN3 and Jayhawk Sports Network.
OKLAHOMA AND THE BIG 12 CONFERENCE
• Oklahoma ended the 2014 Big 12 Conference slate with a 9-9 mark. The record tied the Sooners for fifth with Iowa State.
• The Sooners finished with a 6-3 Big 12 Conference record playing at home in 2014 and a 3-6 mark playing on the road.
• Head coach Sherri Coale is 12-6 all-time in Big 12 Conference season-opening games. The Sooners have won three-straight season-opening league games. They have opened with West Virginia once and they earned a 71-68 victory (Jan. 2, 2013 - at the LNC).
• Oklahoma has one reigning Big 12 all-conference member on its squad. Senior Sharane Campbell-Olds was tabbed Big 12 honorable mention as a junior, Big 12 All-Freshman team honors and was tabbed the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year as a freshman (2011-12).
• The Sooners have won 10 Big 12 Championships - six regular seasons, four tournaments - under the direction of Sherri Coale.
BIG 12 OPENER
• Oklahoma won its fourth-straight Big 12 opener with a 71-60 win over RV/21 West Virginia at the Lloyd Noble Center, Jan. 4. Sophomore guard Gioya Carter had a breakout game, tallying a career-high 24 points and grabbing a career-high eight boards.
OKLAHOMA NON-CONFERENCE QUICK HITS
• Oklahoma closed out its non-conference slate with a 6-5 overall mark. The Sooners defeated Yale, 71-54, Dec. 30 to end non-conference play and snap a 3-game losing skid.
• The Sooners game against Yale at the Lloyd Noble Center on Dec. 30 was their first since Nov. 21. OU played seven-straight games between its home victory over Bradley, Nov. 21 and its Lloyd Noble Center win over Yale, Dec. 30. The Sooners went 2-5 in their seven-game road stretch.
• Oklahoma used four different starting lineups in its 11-game non-conference slate:

• Nine Oklahoma players ended non-conference averaging double-figure minutes. Only one player averaged more than thirty minutes a game and that was freshman Gabbi Ortiz. The point guard averaged 31.6. The Sooner who averaged the second-most minutes was senior Sharane Campbell-Olds (27.5).
• The Sooners averaged 4,926 fans per home game in non-conference. OU's season-high thus far in attendance is 5,230 in its home-opening win against Washington.
FIRST
Sophomore Gioya Carter earned her first Big 12 accolade this week when she was tabbed the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week, Jan. 5. Carter averaged a team-best 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in Oklahoma's wins over Yale and RV/21 West Virginia. After being reinserted back into the starting lineup following six games coming in off the bench, she shot 55.6 percent (15-of-27) from the floor and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the charity stripe.
NINTH
Gabbi Ortiz is the ninth true freshman to start the season opener under Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale. She's just the second point guard, along with Stacey Dales.

Oklahoma has nine players averaging double-figure minutes, of which four are averaging more than 20-plus minutes per game. Freshman Gabbi Ortiz leads the Sooners at 30.9 minutes a game - the only OU player to crack the 30-plus minute mark. Of the final five players who aren't in double-digit minutes, three are close: T'ona Edwards is at 9.6, Vionise Pierre-Louis is at 9.3, and Maddie Manning is averaging 9.0.

In the most recent NCAA statistics and rankings, Oklahoma is ranked 17th in the nation in average home attendance. The Sooners are currently averaging 5,021 fans per home game thus far, including a season-best 5,400 fans at their Big 12 opening win over RV/21 West Virginia. Two other Big 12 schools are in the Top 20; Iowa State (6th; 8,333) and Baylor (10th; 5,736).
TWENTY-FIRST
Oklahoma is currently ranked 21st in the nation in - and third in the Big 12 - in field goal percentage, hitting 45.8 percent from the field. The Sooners are also 22nd in scoring offense, averaging 78.0 points per contest, ranked 45th in assists per game (16.1) and 51st in three-point field goals per game (7.2).
THIRTY-ONE.SIX
The Oklahoma bench is averaging 31.6 points per game for the Sooners. In its 100-73 victory over Lamar, Nov. 18, the bench contributed a season-best 56 points and in its tough loss at Duke, Dec. 17, the bench chipped in for 43 of the 72 points. In their Big 12 opener, the bench contributed 18 points - including 12 in the opening half. The Sooners bench averaged 22.5 points a game in non-conference a season ago and contributed 16.3 points a game during Big 12 contests.
NINTY PERCENT
Oklahoma is struggling at the free throw line this season, but has been improving steadily. The Sooners sank a season-best 90.0 percent (9-of-10) from the charity stripe against Yale, Dec. 30 and had their second-best shooting outing five games ago against UALR. OU hit 81.3 percent in its loss at UALR, sinking 13-of-16. For the season, Oklahoma is hitting just 62.0 percent from the free throw line (61.3 at home in the Lloyd Noble Center).
ON THE ROAD
Oklahoma is looking to improve its performance when it plays on the road. The Sooners are just 2-5 when playing away from the Lloyd Noble Center. OU has lost three-straight on the road, dating back to its 66-62 loss at UALR, Dec. 14. On the flipside, the Sooners are a perfec 5-0 when playing in the LNC this season and have won eight-straight dating back to Feb. 19, 2014 when they defeated Texas 64-63.

PREVIEWING KANSAS
Kansas enters into its game with Oklahoma holding a 9-5 overall mark and a 0-1 record in Big 12 Conference play. The Jayhawks opened league action with a 60-46 setback at third-ranked and undefeated Texas. Chelsea Gardner and Natalie Knight are averaging double digits with 16.1 and 12.2 points per game, respectively. Gardner also leads the team with 7.7 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per contest. From beyond the arc, Knight is shooting an impressive 41.8 percent and has shot 50 percent or higher in 8-of-14 games played this year. Kansas was picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll.
What the Jayhawks returned: Kansas returned seven letterwinners, including four starters, from its squad that finished 13-19 overall and 5-13 in the Big 12 last season. The Jayhawks are led by Chelsea Gardner who averaged 17.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game 2013-14.
Bonnie Henrickson is currently in her 11th year as the head coach of Kansas.
OKLAHOMA-KANSAS SERIES
Oklahoma leads the all-time series with Kansas 32-29 and has won the last three meetings. In 2013-14, the Sooners defeated the Jayhawks 81-71 in Lawrence and took a 64-61 victory in Norman. Nicole Kornet came off the bench in OU's 10-point win in Lawrence to hit three 3-pointers and score 11 points total. In Norman, Sharane Campbell-Olds poured in 22 points, including six in the final six minutes, to allow the Sooners to secure their three-point victory.
