NORMAN, Okla. – Second-year head coach Pete Hughes has announced the addition of Scott Loiseau (pronounced Low-ah-zo) to the Oklahoma baseball coaching staff as the team's volunteer assistant. Loiseau rounds out the Sooners' staff that now features all four coaches having head coaching experience at the collegiate level.
From 2009-14, Loiseau was the head coach at Southern New Hampshire University. There, he collected a 176-121-2 (.592) career record with the Penmen, including a 119-48 (.713) mark in the last three seasons; all of which resulted in appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
“We walked into a great situation [with Scott],” started Hughes. “Our team lost a great guy and the timing is never right in this profession. We got a candidate that we didn't think we were able of attracting for this position; especially in January. Scott was one of the premier Division II coaches in the country.
“He's one of the most respected guys in the Northeast. He took a team that had never won and flipped it immediately. His integrity, reputation as a person and as a worker is unmatched. To have that addition to our staff and quality of a person available for our players on a daily basis is an unbelievable addition to our program. It makes our staff, arguably, one of the best in the country in terms of our experience as head coaches.”
Loiseau will also serve as the program's recruiting coordinator; replacing Ryan Connolly who accepted an assistant coach position at Virginia Tech earlier this month. As a staff, Oklahoma's four coaches have accumulated 1,268 NCAA victories as head coaches over the last 18 seasons. Assistant coaches Mike Anderson and Jamie Pinzino arrived in Norman last season with a combined 16 seasons of head coaching experience.
Last season, SNHU went 41-14, while capturing the Northeast-10 Northeast Division and NE-10 Tournament crowns with a 4-0 run to capture the postseason championship and earn the league's automatic bid. For the third straight season, the Penmen hosted the NCAA East Regional. The three-year run of tournament success started for the Penmen in 2012 when Loiseau guided them to a school-record 43 wins and the first NCAA Tournament in program history capped off by a NCAA East Region title and appearance in the Division II College World Series.
Loiseau collected both the NCBWA East Region and Northeast-10 Coach of the Year in 2014. He was previously recognized with the ACBA East Region Coach of the Year award in 2012.
Since the 2011 season, Loiseau has tutored five players that went on to be selected in the MLB Draft, including a program-record three in 2013. In the last three seasons, SNHU totaled 25 All-Conference honorees from the NE-10.
Prior to his arrival at Southern New Hampshire, Loiseau served as an assistant coach for three seasons at his alma mater, Franklin Pierce, plus an additional season in 2003, immediately after graduating. In his three-year stint with the Ravens, he helped the team to Division II College World Series appearances each season. Between stints at Franklin Piece, Loiseau notched stops with Holy Cross, the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League and Franklin Pierce hockey.
A native of Worcester, Mass., Loiseau played professionally for the Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League. A 2002 graduate of Franklin Pierce with a degree in marketing, he was a four-year starter for the Ravens and garnered NE-10 All-Conference and Rawlings All-Region as a senior.
