Squires Named MPSF Gymnast of the Week

January 20, 2015 | Men's Gymnastics

WOODLAND, Calif. – The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced on Tuesday that Oklahoma men's gymnastics senior Mike Squires has been named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week for his performance in the Sooners' 441.550 point first-place finish at the season-opening Rocky Mountain Open.

Squires turned in a sensational performance on the still rings, posting a score of 16.300 to win the event. The score matched his career-best mark on the event and gave him the high-score of the season throughout the NCAA on any event. The Edmond, Oklahoma native is the only gymnast to eclipse the 16.000 mark thus far in 2015. The score tied his own program record on the rings and ranks second all-time in the MPSF.

The senior is no stranger to success on the still rings, as Squires is the two-time defending national champion on the apparatus. Squires and the Sooners will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 24, as OU travels out west to take on Stanford, California and Nebraska in Palo Alto, California. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
