NORMAN - It's not every weekend that you get to see the No. 1 team in the country compete. This weekend, Oklahoma fans will get that opportunity.
The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team enters this week tied for No. 1 in the country alongside Florida with an average score of 197.063. The top-ranked Sooners will host TWU and Southeast Missouri State at home in the Lloyd Noble Center on Friday night.
This week marks the second week in a row that OU has been ranked No. 1 in the country. The team is ranked in the top seven nationally on every event, including No. 2 overall rankings on both uneven bars (49.350) and floor exercise (49.325).
In addition to their pair of top-two rankings, the Sooners are fourth on vault (49.388) and seventh in the country on balance beam (49.000).
Seven individual Sooners picked up 11 total appearances in the individual top 25 this week. Haley Scaman led the way, appearing in the top 15 nationally on vault, bars and floor. The junior tied for second in the country on floor (9.925) and 13th on bars (9.875) while locking down the No. 8 spot on vault (9.925). Scaman has captured the vault and floor titles in both of Oklahoma's meets this season.
A trio of vaulters joined in the top 25 this week. Sophomore Chayse Capps returned to vault this week, posting a 9.9 to tie for 10th overall. True freshman Ali Jackson tied for 20th with a 9.888 average, and Maile'ana Kanewa appeared in a tie for 25th (9.875).
Capps also shone on balance beam for the second week in a row, tying for third in the nation with a 9.9 average. Capps has posted Oklahoma's highest balance beam score for two consecutive weeks this season.
Jackson and sophomore Kara Lovan also notched top 25 rankings on floor exercise after last weekend. The pair tied for No. 15 in this week's listing, averaging a 9.875 through two meets.
OU's No. 2 bars ranking was supported by the duo of freshman Brenna Dowell and sophomore McKenzie Wofford. The pair is tied for No. 8 nationally on the event, averaging a 9.9 in two appearances.
