NORMAN -- A pair of former Sooners, Gabe Ikard and Tamyra Rogers, were among the honorees at the annual NCAA Honors Celebration, held Friday night in Washington, D.C. The event is one of the highlights of the annual NCAA Convention.

Ikard, who completed his eligibility during the 2013-14 academic year, earned the NCAA Top 10 Award. The award recognizes a total of 10 student-athletes from all divisions who have excelled in competition, academics and community service during their collegiate careers.

Ikard graduated with his undergraduate degree in 2012 and had already begun work on his graduate degree leading into the 2013 football season. The offensive lineman and five-year letterman was named a team captain for his junior and senior years, and led the Sooners to two Big 12 titles and wins in three bowl games: the 2014 All-State Sugar Bowl, the 2012 Insight Bowl and the 2011 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Ikard was the first Sooner football player to earn Capital One Academic All-America honors three times. In 2013, the Big 12 recognized him as the 2013 Scholar Athlete of the Year in football, and later he was named the 2014 Big 12 Conference Medal recipient.

Ikard also demonstrated outstanding leadership off the field, volunteering in tornado relief work in 2013 and on a mission trip to Haiti in 2012. For all of his efforts, Ikard was named the 2013-14 Big 12 Male Sportsman of the Year, for his extraordinary display sportsmanship, community service and academic achievement. He also won the 2013 Wuerffel Award and the 2013 Selmon Spirit Award, both for his excellence academics, athletics and community service. He also earned the 2013 Don Key Award, which is given by the OU athletics department to the senior football student-athlete who best represents values and goals of the University of Oklahoma in athletics, academics and community service in a way that reflects the character and approach of the

Rogers was named one of six Silver Anniversary Award winners. The Silver Anniversary award recognizes former student-athletes, again from all divisions, for their accomplishments on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their collegiate careers. A four-year letter winner and three-year starter for the Oklahoma women's basketball team, Rogers capped off her college basketball eligibility with 1,353 points, the fourth-ranked total at the time and currently 15th best in school history. She currently ranks fourth in career free throw percentage, is tied for fifth in scoring average for a single season (19.7), and is 10th in career field goals attempted (1,273) and assisted (301). Rogers received the Big Eight Conference Medal as an outstanding student-athlete. After playing her final basketball game, Rogers worked diligently to preserve the women's basketball team on Oklahoma's campus so other women after her would have the opportunity to experience college the way she did.

Following her graduation, Rogers earned her medical degree from University of Texas – San Antonio and returned to Oklahoma for her residency. She helped to build the first wellness center for the Navajo nation to fight the epidemic of diabetes in American Indian communities, and avidly fights obesity in the San Antonio area at Dr. Rogers Weight Loss Centers. The four medical centers are intended to maintain high levels of fitness, wellness and weight-loss services for the greater San Antonio community. Rogers has been widely lauded for her practice, earning the Patients' Choice Award in 2011 and 2012 and the Compassionate Doctors Recognition in 2011.
