OU Opens Season at Rocky Mountain Open

The No. 1 University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team opens the 2015 season in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Rocky Mountain Open Saturday at 7 p.m. CT. The Sooners will face No. 10 Nebraska, No. 11 Air Force, No. 14 Arizona State and No. 20 SC United.

Five Things to Know

• The Sooners are loaded with returning experience this season. OU returns all nine All-America honors earned at last season's NCAA Championships. The nine accolades came from Danny Berardini (PB, HB), William Clement (HB), Michael Reid (PH), Alec Robin (FX, V), Michael Squires (SR) and Colin Van Wicklen (FX, V).

• Oklahoma owns a perfect 15-0 record at the Rocky Mountain Open. OU has won the annual season-opening event at the Air Force Academy the past 15 straight years. Last season, Oklahoma posted a team score of 443.100, beating second-place Nebraska (423.700) by 19.400 points. Air Force took third place with a 423.100. As a team, Oklahoma claimed the top score on floor, pommel horse, rings, vault and parallel bars. Five Sooners took home a combined six individual event titles: Sergey Resnick (pommel horse, parallel bars), Alec Robin (floor), Michael Squires (still rings), Raymond White (vault) and Danny Berardini (all-around).

• The Sooners had a 5-0 record against Air Force and Nebraska last season. OU posted three wins against Air Force, with two wins coming in the regular season and one at the MPSF Championships. Oklahoma swept Nebraska in the regular season with one coming at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 11, 2014 and again at home on March 9.

• OU enters the 2015 season ranked No. 1 in the Preseason Coaches Poll. OU has been ranked in the top three in every preseason poll since 2000. The Sooners are ranked ahead defending NCAA Champion and second-ranked Michigan, and Ohio State. Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Stanford is fourth, followed by Illinois in fifth.

• Oklahoma, the 2014 NCAA runner-up, heads into 2015 fresh off its 14th-consecutive top-three finish at the NCAA Championships. The Sooners also claimed their 21st conference title in 2014, their 12th in the past 15 years under head coach Mark Williams.

The Sooners head to Palo Alto, Calif., on Saturday Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. CT. No. 1 Oklahoma will face No. 4 Stanford, No. 8 California and No. 10 Nebraska. OU and Stanford finished second and third, respectively, at the 2014 NCAA Championships. OU posted a combined record of 8-1 in 2014 against next week's three opponents. The lone loss came against Stanford in the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Feb. 14.
