NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished in 10th place at the competitive 15-team Olympia Fields CC/Fighting Illini Invitational in Olympia Fields, Illinois. The three-day, 54-hole tournament was played at the par-70, 7,142-yard North Course at the Olympia Fields Country Club.

The Sooners recorded a 303 (+23) for Sunday's final round and finished the event with a 54-hole 898 (+58). The tournament featured one of the best fields of the fall, with 10 squads ranked in the GCAA Coaches Preseason Top-25 Poll, including the Sooners at No. 11.

“I saw some good things this week. Our guys fought hard, but the golf course won, and we weren't sharp enough,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “We have a long way to go. There are huge opportunities in front of us.”

No. 6 and host Illinois won the event with an 861 (+21), while No. 17 Florida State took second with a 32-over 872. Baylor finished third with an 876 (+36), No. 7 Stanford secured fourth with an 882 (+42) and No. 1 Oklahoma State rounded out the top five with a 45-over 885.

OU's top finishers were senior Michael Gellerman and junior Beau Titsworth, who tallied 11-over-par 221s to share 19th place. It was the 20th top-20 finish for Gellerman in his career and the 13th for Titsworth. Gellerman, who started the day in a tie for seventh place and two strokes off the lead, recorded a 77 (+7) on Sunday. Titsworth's final-round score was a 75 (+5).

The Sooners began the final round on hole No. 10, and both Gellerman and Titsworth struggled on the back nine before rebounding on the front nine. Gellerman and Titsworth played the back nine at +6 and +5, respectively, and closed the round at +1 and even par.

With a 54-hole 228 (+18), sophomore Max McGreevy tied for 42nd place. McGreevy logged a 5-over-par 75 in Sunday's final round.

Freshman Grant Hirschman finished one stroke behind McGreevy with a 19-over 229, good for a 49th-place tie. Hirschman tallied a 7-over-par 77 on Sunday.

Griffin Pierce shot a 76 (+6) on Sunday, his best score of the weekend, and a 236 (+26) for the tournament. The freshman finished in 68th place.

The Sooners will return to the course Oct. 6-7 for the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
