Oklahoma Rowing to Hold Open Tryouts

2V8 Race Highlights NCAA Day 2

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma rowing team submitted a solid performance on the second day of competition at the NCAA Championship in Indianapolis, Ind.

The second varsity eight highlighted the day for OU with second place in its C/D semifinal at Eagle Creek Park, the highest placement of the three Sooner boats Saturday. The 2V8, seeded No. 18, came in at 7:01.613 just behind No. 16 Wisconsin at 6:55.484. OU defeated four teams, including No. 17 San Diego (7:05.364), No. 20 Boston U (7:18.422) and No. 22 Jacksonville (7:42.389).

In the first varsity eight C/D semifinal, the Sooners took fourth with a final time of 6:56.767. No. 11 seed UCLA finished first in 6:40.914 followed by No. 14 Washington State (6:43.896) and No. 16 Louisville (6:46.491). No. 22 Jacksonville came in fifth at 7:11.231.

The Oklahoma first varsity four wrapped up competition for OU on Saturday by taking third in its semifinal. The Sooners' time of 7:59.385 was ahead of No. 18 Northeastern (8:17.089) and No. 22 Jacksonville (9:06.393) and behind No. 12 Washington State (7:47.318) and No. 10 Harvard (7:58.251).

With the semifinals in the books, the Sooners will finish at the NCAA Championship on Sunday morning starting with the 1V4 at 7:40 a.m. CT in the C Final. OU will race against San Diego, Harvard, UCLA, Washington State and Louisville to decide placements of 13 through 18 overall.

The 2V8 will compete in the C Final at 8 a.m. CT in race to decide 14th through 19th along with San Diego, Louisville, Indiana, Wisconsin and Northeastern.

Competition for the Sooners will conclude with the 1V8 D Final at 8:10 a.m. against UMass, Boston U and Jacksonville. Points will then be awarded based on individual boat finishes to tabulate the final team finish overall. Oklahoma took No. 17 at the NCAA Championship last season.
