OU v. Wichita State
April 8, 2014

Head Coach Patty Gasso

On where the team is so far in the season:
“We're in a very good place. We're playing some of our best softball this season right now. That's exactly what you're hoping for. With win streaks and playing well, there's no magic potion; we've been that kind of slow and steady team. We started slow but just kept moving forward and progressing and now we're reaping the benefits. Going into Waco, that's exactly where we want to be.”

On the difference between the two games of the doubleheader:
“I wasn't be completely surprised by it just because of such an emotional weekend that we had. We really laid it all out there and we worked a little bit on Monday and we didn't really press because we're trying to get bodies to get some rest but at the same time prepare for Wichita State. I wasn't surprised, I was a little disappointed that we weren't attacking more but I think we saw that more in the second game.”

On the pitching staff:
“This game revolves around the circle whether we like it or not, and we like it a lot right now. To see all the options that I have and see Kelsey Stevens come out and do her thing. We just want to get her off the field as soon as possible during midweek games and give opportunities to Shelby Pendley and Georgia Casey and Leslie Miller and Taylor Dewbery. We've got five on staff that can do their job, but we're really seeing improvement from Kelsey. As we go along you're really starting to see Shelby settle in and believe that she can help this staff. We're so fortunate to have such great athletes. Shelby can play third and come in and pitch. When you have athletes that can do that, you have a lot of freedom to do a lot of things. I like where we're at. Our ERA numbers are dropping since we started and they're understanding that I don't have to walk out of here with nine strikeouts. Ground balls are actually better for this infield because they can turn them into doubles plays. One pitch can turn into two outs that quickly. I'm anxious to see how they take it down to Waco.”

On going into Waco:
“The Big 12 championship is probably going to go through Waco. I'm not downplaying any of our other weekends but going to Waco is a disadvantage for us because we're on the road and at their place. This team, you can feel them on a different kind of mission right now. They're really coming together. I look forward to it. In order to win it, weve got to go down there and play good softball. Our goal is to walk out with at least two of three, if we can sweep, it'd be phenomenal but two out of three would be great.

Senior Javen Henson

On the second game of the doubleheader:
“We just wanted to go out and attack and punch first. We seemed a little standoffish in the first game so we really wanted to be vocal on and off the field and really just like get everything out of our at-bats.”

On her home run:
“I was just wanting to hit the ball hard somewhere. I wasn't trying to think about certain pitches or where I was going to place it. I knew if I did that, it would give us a chance to bring in an RBI or two.”

On going into Waco:
“I think it's all about the momentum. We want to take every ounce of it that we can. We've used the past several games to just gain confidence in everyone throughout the lineup. This game is all about confidence and momentum.”
