TULSA, Okla. – The No. 28 University of Oklahoma baseball team dropped a midweek non-conference game at Oral Roberts, 3-0, Tuesday night. The Sooners fell to 18-8 on the season, while the Golden Eagles improved to 11-12.
Oklahoma had a chance to break the game open in the first inning as they loaded the bases against ORU starter Pepe Gomez with an error and two walks, but the right-hander worked his way out of the jam.
The Golden Eagles struck for a run in the second and never looked back. Right fielder Tyler Boss was hit by a pitch with one out and came around to score on a two-out single by shortstop Dean Wilson. They grabbed two more runs in the sixth with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice-fly.
Gomez (2-2) pitched nine-shutout innings in the complete game victory and allowed just five hits and three walks, while striking out five. For the Sooners, redshirt-junior Robert Tasin (Klein, Texas) went 3.2 innings as he dropped to 2-1 on the season. He allowed just one run on four hits to go with two strikeouts.
Oklahoma used three relief pitchers. Redshirt-senior right-hander Drew Krittenbrink (Okarche, Okla.) pitched the final three without allowing a run or a hit.
Sophomore center fielder Craig Aikin (Coppell, Texas) and freshman designated hitter Niko Buentello (Lewisville, Texas) each went 1-for-3 with a walk.
The Sooners return to action Friday at Kansas for a 6:00 pm first pitch.
