IRVING, Texas -- The third-ranked Oklahoma women's gymnastics team continued its dominance in the postseason conference award listings on Wednesday afternoon, capturing a conference-high 11 spots on the All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team.
2014 marks the fifth consecutive season that the Sooners have earned at least nine All-Big 12 awards. Every OU class from freshmen to seniors was represented in this season's all-conference list. The Sooners have led the conference in All-Big 12 selections each of the past seven years.
Sophomore Haley Scaman collected honors on a conference-leading three events (vault, bars, floor), giving her five awards in two seasons at OU. Senior Taylor Spears picked up a pair of honors on bars and beam for a final total of seven All-Big 12 accolades over four years of competition.
Freshman Chayse Capps also captured two awards for this year (beam, floor), highlighting the newcomer's impressive first season with the Sooners. Capps was the conference's only freshman to earn an appearance on the all-conference listing.
Four Oklahoma gymnasts rounded out Oklahoma's selections with their first career All-Big 12 honors. Sophomores Maile'ana Kanewa and Keeley Kmieciak each earned their first all-conference awards with both earning spots on the conference's vault team. Junior Rebecca Clark picked up All-Big 12 accolades on beam, and senior Lara Albright capped a stellar season with all-conference honors on floor.
The All-Big 12 squad consists of the top three conference gymnasts with the highest regional qualifying score (RQS) in each event in addition to the top two all-around gymnasts.
Oklahoma is headed east this weekend in pursuit of the program's 12th conference title and third in a row dating back to 2012. West Virginia will play host to the 2014 Big 12 Championships in Morgantown, W.Va., on Saturday, March 22 at 3 p.m. CT. The meet will be broadcast on FSN via tape delay.
